Postby forrest Gump » Tue Jan 22, 2013 10:17 am

Get your burn on! Don’t be a sheeple or a spectator, Help create functional art! Help make a difference! Help the environment! We need volunteers, increase your karmic cache! We are building, and setting up some very unique housing/art then supplying it to artist on the playa. Lucky artist will have a very cool comfy foam hexa yurt set up and waiting for them to use during their time on the playa to keep them warm at night. Included is a solar powered freezer, swamp cooler( to keep them cool during the day), and air filters to help keep the dust out. Help us create art, support artist, help the environment and keep the playa from becoming a trailer park! Here is some of the skills we need.

Tech team-technical skills for building facebook page, blogs, tweets, and web pages.
Donation outreach team-monitor for Social media, Corporate donation liaison, donation manager, online fund raiser.
Physical labor team-transportation of housing, procurement of supplies, building housing, assembly team, disassembly team, Storage coordinator.
Artiest outreach team -burning man coordinator, artiest coordinator, event planner.

If you can help out in any way email me back at goodhonestreal@yahoo.com

I am not trying to be funny, but I am not sure I understand what you are planning to do. Are you going to create housing for an artist/artists? If that's the case will they be just chill spots or does the artist/artists get to live there? And if they can live there, how will they be selected? And how does this "help the environment."? It might help if you could eleborate more on your goal. Good luck.

Good questions, Dr. Helix. forrest gump, I'm sure you guys mean well, but based on what you've written it sounds like you're looking to build a really posh turnkey camp for as-yet-unspecified recipients, and are looking to get other people to do the work and (and eventually pay for it). If there's more to it than that, you may want to provide folks with more info.

Plus there was the use of that term that marks the lazy of thought: sheeple.

Geez, he fizzled quick. Didn't mean to scare him off. I really wanted to know what an "artiest coordinator" did. Is that position one above an "artier coordinator"?

I figured out long ago, that if your idea can't stand up to a few questions, there's something wrong with the idea, not the questions.

Wow so I am wondering why no one is volunteering, Imagine my surprise when I read what people are saying? So…. just so I understand the community is against me giving free housing to financially struggling artiest on the playa so they can focus on their art? I am not getting it are you guys affiliated with the people who rent out the plug and play and trying to undermine Decommodification in the burning man community. As far as getting others to help burning man is all about volunteering I don’t have the finances to hire people to help me and there is no way I can do this alone. Maybe I am just clueless? Please someone explain.

If I were volunteering with someone, I'd seriously consider not volunteering for anyone who used the word "sheeple" because I think it's a term used by the speaker to feel smug about him/herself in a very cheap and lazy way.

If that person then later got all self-righteous about how no one is volunteering with him/her, I'd feel that my choice was thoroughly vindicated.

I may be a hard case, but in both posts you "accentuate the negative" rather than trying to build up some honest enthusiasm. Look at illydilly's thread about volunteering with Arctica. That's a fun thread. There's none of this "Here is what you must to do be a good burner."

You may want to consider the strategy of posting public please for help and then effectively abandoning the thread for several months. Speaking personally, the message I believe that sends is that you don't really care about the site's community or the questions that people may have. Coming back with a sense of outrage and accusing people of things may not help. Your best bet whenever asking any community for help is to be attentive to that community. Check in regularly, and try to answer questions people may have without getting defensive or bent out of shape. The nature of public calls for help us that you'll get a range of questions and comments you may not have anticipated or asked for, the way you handle them says a lot about both you and the project.

Well you did post up on it in January, then never followed up on it until May 17th. But I see Trillo already pointed that out. So who'd wanna work for that?
Also no one likes to be told half the facts up front.
A quick google search of your Email Address reveals a FB post where you basically "Sell" your Services for Profit even thought you claim other wise. Also using a bit of google foo (using your misspelled "artiest" as a search term) I found this is not the first time you've tried to hustle this bottle of Snake oil.
I thought I'd also let you into the fact that I worked on some of those "Art Crews" that have little time to "set up housing or camps" and I can tell you and everyone else for that matter, There are people filling that role you are trying to fill who are upfront, and operating within the Guidelines and issued Vendors permits from the Org to do what it is you are trying to get done for free so you can profit.
the Irony is the position I held last year on one of the major projects was exactly what you were looking for(and more) , I work real hard and am quite tech Savy. Pretty disappointed in your presentation and am sure many other burners that do major art are too.
We are not a community to be used! and you should know that.
