The table of dates on the ticket site says STEP closes on July 31st, but the blurb about STEP further down says it closes on August 7th.

Sometimes stuff gets missed, it is getting corrected as soon as they are notified... I do not see a problem!!

Fishy, from the FAQs it looks like the BMORG will contact (or call for) groups - much like last year. I guess that Groups will then get codes (like last year) and get a lucky shot to buy a ticket. Doing this before the main sale makes lots of sense.

Looking at it, the pre-sale seem to balance out the price difference for the low income tickets that are being awarded so that every ticket costs about $380 across the board (with the pre-sale lovelies helping cover a portion of said expenses for the low income/scholarship tix)... This of course if just a thought of mine... Not saying that this is what is being done.

I like the sale process this year. Really nice idea to include an Aug. sale for those that realize tht came make it much later in the planning game.

jkisha - the servers backing the Individual Sale will likely be on the Amazon cloud (and provide considerably more bandwidth and ability to process transactions than Inticketing had in 2011). Despite that, expect them to be crushed. Even the Ticketmasters and LiveNations of the world with all their resources suffer crippling server issues during on-sale of popular concerts, festivals, and sporting events.

I am sure that there will be a small group of people who try to scalp tickets... But based on last year's efforts and this years OMG sale - they will not exactly have a huge window of opportunity!

Anyone who makes a reasonable effort should be able to get a ticket at face price!

To answer more clearly..

No, you are not giving your credit card details during open registration. It will be just like the other pre-registration events that they've held already where you simply register your vital details and are then emailed a unique entry code. Once open sale starts, you have the ability to enter with your unique code. It's then and only then that you enter your payment info.

I didn't like the direct distribution sale last year--even though that's how I got my ticket--and the idea of flagrant re-selling of such disturbs me. It's a fucking privilege, don't be la-di-dah with it.

I agree with all of the above, oh finned one. Crony-ism is crony-ism no matter how you cut it. "Preserving the fabric of Burning Man" be damned.. and especially when you have certain camps using their DD tickets as bait to new and well paying members.

..and then even after they boast about it publicly, they're awarded even more.. to do the same damn thing with. *cough*Area 51*cough*

Hell.. it appears that we haven't gotten rid of the tier system.. now it just comes in different form.

Anyway.. I guess it's a bit of a jump to assume that DD tickets would be STEP-able this time around. Wondering how the re-sale/re-allocation of those will go though?

Tickets purchased through the directed program are transferable, and may be sold into STEP. It's actually in the FAQ, in the section titled Directed Group Sale.
