I gotta wonder at it, too, Junglesmacks. Ribs were hard to cook and so they were cheap and became the food of the poor. So the poor learned how to cook them. (Substantial progress was made by African Americans, just gotta say that. Of course, that may seem racist itself, damn.) And they cooked them really nicely, and suddenly ribs were loved and everyone ate them.

So now, tofu has to imitate them? Too fucking weird.

Dagnammit.. food of the poor!

You know.. "they" say the same thing about skirt steak. It used to be the throw away from the butcher according the good ol' boys round these parts.. and now its $8/lb...???

I'd take it over anything else.

I maintain that if tofu was actually good enough, people would stop fucking around to make it pretend to be something else to try and sell people on it.

You stole the words right out of my mouth!!!

As for on Playa cravings:
These cheap single serve trailmix packets. Since its single serve the whole bag doesn't get dusty by Friday, and they are the perfect serving size Image
Another one I love, is Beanies'n'Weinnies (baked beans and cop up hot dogs). So simple, so tasty, and will last tell Saturday even if the hot dogs thaw but stay Cold.

Tofu is wonderful in a lot of stuff. It just needs to be cooked right - I would kill for good Tofu Praram, with thinly sliced fried tofu in it (most places make it with either non-fried tofu, or they slice the fried tofu thick, so it doesn't absorb the peanut sauce as well)

On topic - I'm a big fan of the Annie Chuns Miso soup, I eat it almost every day. Trader Joes has a good French Onion soup that's vegetarian as well. Soups tend to be my main dinner, during the day it's lots & lots of pickles (brined only, no vinegar "pickles" ever), chips & salsa, pita chips & hummus (with olives - yumm!), kimchee...

Last year I brought hard-boiled eggs - they really disagreed with me. I'm fine with them in the city, but on playa... not so much.

strangely enough... cucumbers.

Sliced cucumbers and some decent mustard turns a POS cold-cut sandwich into a DELI MASTERPIECE.

Other than that, twizzlers.

Grilled steak for breakfast. Lots of salt and pepper.

Apparently I work in reverse on playa. I'm an early bird, so there's nothing like waking up at 7am and cooking a nice thick sirloin and sharing with your neighbors.

Pickle juice (chilled)
turkey/beef jerky (oh god the salt and protein)
jameson
trail mix
Tillamook medium cheddar(seriously yum)
eggs
wheat bread
peanut butter
gnutella

I don't get an appetite out there for heavy foods... by the end I am craving nothing but watery fresh veggies and fruit - watermelon, cantelope, cucumber, honeydew, pineapple.

Beanies'n'Weenies!!!
Not just Burning Man, but anytime I'm camping.
This last year we up'd our game a little and used precooked brats instead of hot dogs.
YUMMM!
