Oddly, I have two pins just like that, given to us by an Israeli journalist on Tuesday evening, 4:30 plaza. He said they were Soviet Boy Scouts. Just playadipity.

I think they were used/distributed by the Young Pioneers...

Oh, I think the Young Pioneers were the Soviet answer to the Boy Scouts, much as the Hitlerjungend were Nazi Germany's. And I don't know if I'd trust an Israeli journalist to know the difference, although at a guess, his (her?) parents emigrated from there. Or the grandparents.

And I'm not making any remarks about scouting in general being a fine way to teach hateful conformity across the generations. Perhaps because I don't want to ruffle Bob's feathers....

His parents, he was quite proud of it. I think I have that right. Chance encounter, that's what stuck in my memory.

Sorry, nothing to add to the discussion except, "this is not in the lost and found database."
