Does anybody know which was the biggest shade structure in Burning Man history as far as horizontal square footage goes?

I think that honor belongs to center camp.
Don't worry, it'll get weird...

Thanks, I didn't think of that. Does anybody know the square footage of the biggest incarnation of center camp? Also, does anybody know the second biggest shade structure not including center camp?

The center camp is pretty big at 250 diameter over all and a 48 diameter hole in the center. (3.14x125^2) - (3.14x24^2) = 47,254.

Was it just me, or did it seem like Center Camp had a larger "center hole?" I could have sworn that in years past the center was smaller and higher and there were more aerialist. There were so many wires going across the hole this year no one could fit in a trapeze or anything.
Or maybe I just was stoned in past years. Not sure.

Bulk shade cloth comes in 12.5' rolls, so the Cafe geometry was keyed off nominal 12' wide hemmed tarps. The most changes were in the first couple of years, and overall I don't think they've screwed around too much with the original layout so they can reuse pieces from year to year. The first year the king posts in the center developed a twist such that the tops were a foot or so off plumb, which I think they managed to fix by adding more diagonal cables.

I think it was just you, danibel, but memory can be tricksy.

The structure didn't seem different to me.

OK. So I went back through some old photos and I must have been high to think the opening was smaller and higher. There were a million wires all over the place, and no aerialists. Ah well.
