My mother's memorial service is today. I found out my quiet demure aunt from Cambridge, who is studying for a graduate degree in old and middle English... hitch hiked from n.y. to s.f. across canada the summer of '69. Great story.

I am out in the country again at my mother's, GORGEOUS day here, sun sparkling off the water... Misa posted a photo of the sunrise on her fb page but I think has elected to take a little more rest. I was up late (early?) recovering from my heartbreak about the Nationals (LOST game five in the NINTH after holding a huge lead yikes) and conversating with my younger son Puppy. He's home from school to visit with Misa and, wants advice about changing his major to Sculpture...

We were talking about all you guys last night! Miss you so much.

Watched the game last night and was thinking about a DC vs SF contest and talking to you, MDF about that and then that 9th inning. If it weren't for you, MDF, I'd say between the Giants 3 game sweep in Cincy and that ending, some of the most exciting baseball I've seen in years. As Dodgers fans used to say, MDF, "wait till next year"

Off to get a tour of the Lawrence Livermore Labs with my daughter Naomi this AM. They only open the Labs about once every couple of years for visitors so it should be extremely interesting. I get to see where she works and get a better idea as to what she does there.

In better news; the debates are now behind us. given Ami-lands short attention span, in about an 1hr and 12 min 90% of the population will have forgotten who said what, the remaining 10% will complain about the Apathy, and low voter turn out.

knowmad the whole cracker/biscuit/cookie thing is All messed up. basically cookies are pretty much the same, biscuits are like cookies but not, what you call biscuits we call scones and crackers are for cheese. Krackers are from the south of america and stupid- i may be the only person in London who is both British and know what it means. She is one smart cookie would mean the same over her as there IF we ever said it, but that's because we get a lot of Americana tv and influence over by trying to avoid European influence.

In Utah, the things they call scones are actually fry-bread. My scones have oatmeal in them and are heavy and sweet, and my biscuits are flaky and buttery.

The real question is, what the fuck is a crumpet? I know it isn't an English muffin. Kinda. Maybe?

Scones are kind of like a drop biscuit; dense and short.

Crumpets are really good. Soft and toast up completely different than an English muffin.
