I also carry a container of cedar saw dust.. an extra bucket to carry the Lug A Lu bags out.. Our county allows use to put the bags in the garbage can.. We have huge garbage burner plant. Like the potting soil idea.. Will try it next timeout..

you're lucky. our county doesn't allow human waste disposal through regular trash pickup. i'm letting the bucket run its course in a corner of the back yard hoping it will break down enough to just dump in the garden patch in a couple of months

Make sure that's not where you grow veggies. Perhaps when it has broken down it could be left in the sun for a few days, have the uv have at it.

Humanure Must be composted twice.. Or compost it in a flower garden twice.. Or search human manure. I see it as dangerous stuff to work with..

Poop in a bucket.....or just camp up under the cottonwoods on the surrounding foothills. Dig a 2 foot hole in the organic soil there.........
Pack out all paper, do the deed away from camp spots, trails, etc. and fill the hole when you are done.

We've been on the playa in December. Cold, the wind bites down to the bone. We stayed on the edge, the surface felt spongy and we didn't want to risk driving out more than a few hundred yards, if that.

how isolated were you?
were there any other campers?
did you feel safe?
how long did you stay?
do blm rangers patrol? did you see any?

We weren't camping, more of a brief visit to see what is was like. Didn't see anyone else, except the random vehicles on 447. Like no one was there. Lots of garbage from other folks, including what looked like a whole small camp bundled up and shoved in a steam vent along the highway. Shot up propane tanks in a kiddie pool full of mud. These were all near the edges, of course.

The BLM were probably miles away, holed up in the warmth. Felt as safe as one can in the great wide open, alone.

Couple Julys ago we camped along the west-side road, in a nice little cove where apparently some of the pooper crew used to stay. Not much trash as such, just a few JOTS placards that had fallen off and been used for target practice, and about fifty pounds of spent bullet casings the 10yo with us bagged to take in for recycling.

That's not a bad haul, we get 1.60lb around here, probably a bit more in the bay. There's probably a shit-pot of brass out there for the taking.

what are those just laying around on the surface or do you have to use a metal detector to find them?

The brass should be at or near the surface, the lead you may will need a detector to find.
