It's an interesting question: to what degree is B.E.D. preaching to the choir, so to speak?
I think there are plenty of people out there at the burn who aren't "sex camp fiends" who could benefit from a little reminder or education about communication & consent. But is the message even getting to them? Or should there be a different, broader message for them?
The broader B.E.D. message should apply to everyone, even if you are not explicitly looking for sexual situations. Awareness of boundaries, non-pressuring communication, learning to look for non-verbal cues - these are just as relelvant to a friendly flirtation on the esplanade as a solicitation in the orgy dome. And even if you aren't cruising at the burn, you can take that awareness home with you, and let it inform your social interactions more broadly. It's not just about sex.
I think a crime map would be awesome. I also think that a distilled report of aggregated historical info about on-playa assaults and rapes (leaving out the details that aren't ours to tell) would be hugely helpful. Someone in the org has got to be able to look at the incident reports throughout the years.
How about: Here's how rapists have historically tended to operate on the playa. Here are some patterns we've noticed. Here are some specific things you should look out for. Beware this modus operandi.
I recall one of the posts from a Want It! camp member in the Serial Rapist thread (or perhaps on their facebook) mentioning other creepy behaviors they noticed and were looking out for. What if camps started sharing that information with other camps? Here's some creepy shit we noticed, here's what we're trying to do about it. Any other ideas or similar stories?
Keep Burning Man potentially natal.
