Hotels in Reno

I swear that I have been deep into the jungle of threads but haven't been able to find anything about hotels in Reno. Under Preperations they list some hotels, but I'd really think I could make a better choice if I had Burning opinions.

What are you looking for in a hotel?

I live in Reno about a quarter of the time. I've been staying in the Atlantis or the Grand Sierra while I'm there.

Neither is bad, however being casinos, you don't get a fridge in your room.

The Atlantis has the best buffet in town, particularly the dinner buffet. Ask which nights they have King crab (Friday and maybe other nights too?) The way we do it is eat a small salad and then eat nothing but Alaskan King Crab legs. I use a soup cup for the really good cocktail sauce, and I can eat over $100 worth of that crab easily, everytime...and avoid the gaming. (I used to work there, I know the it's a good buffet when they do the Alaskan King crab)

If you need a good bed I discovered some of The Sands beds are new but stuffed with old plastic or other cheap stuff. Of course post burn they feel like heaven but not for long term stays. The Atlantis and Grand Sierra probably have better beds.

I like the Silver Legacy. Usually $49 on exodus night. More on the weekend. When I've left super early and beat exodus and got to Reno at 11am, I had no problem checking in early and getting that first oh so wonderful post playa shower.

I stay at the Sands every year the Saturday night of Easter weekend. All I can tell you is that it is indeed a room with beds in it, and that those beds work fine for the 3 or 4 hours of drunken sleep I get in them. They are not quite as good if you have 4 or 5 drag-queens jumping on them. (The Silverado's Easter buffet sucks, don't go. Yech.)

We stayed at the Grand Sierra after the Burn last year- comfortable room, decent bed; but the restaurants suck.

I got an email from the Silver Legacy last night-Sun-Thurs, rooms are $36. Code HOT. have to be booked online. I was literally sweating in the parking lot of the Save Mart today, and decided I really wanted one last shower & a bed. Booked on my phone right then and there, and drove the 5 blocks or so. They now have room coffee, although no fridge. Dinner tonight: the steak & lobster special. $15.99 after the coupon they gave me at checkin.

Last year I went to the Peppermill on Monday night, it was a freakin trip. Its up from the main part of the city but if you get a Tuscany suite it is pretty epic. Lots of haggard burners and crazy huge castle like ambiance. A little scary but pretty darn nice. $100 but I think I have a discount code....I'll post it if I find that darn paper with it on it. I want to go there again!

We took up the Grand Sierra on their sale and booked the pimp king suite with marble bathroom and all for $170 for two nights. Hey.. live a little. This is a once a year vacation, after all.

I'm down with harrahs, between my gf and I we give them our player card #s and usually get a comped free room. Plenty of good food within a 5 min. stroll and the beds will have you feelin like a million bucks. The good thing about it is it's off peak time before and after the burn, no matter where you choose rooms are pretty cheap, and after the desert you can even stay at circus circus and feel like a king!

I stayed at the Sands last year, but I'm getting a suite near the airport with a fridge this year. Ground level parking and the ability to chill and freeze things before they go in the coolers. I'm going to request a room on the ground floor near an exterior door.

I'm aiming at convenience this time.

FWIW, Hotwire and Priceline had 3 and 4 star hotels for $35-ish a night. Reno is awash with hotels with empty rooms looking to fill them and there's always deals around..

There rooms are pretty nice (didn't stay there myself) and they have a pretty nice pool/bar setup.

Yeah.. the Peppermill looks sick, I have to admit.

BUT. Some will bitch about it, but the afterparty at the Grand Sierra is um.. pretty fun

I wouldn't miss it for anything...
