FIGJAM, you are amazing. So nice to meet you in person this year
As for tips for you new guys, I just got back from my first year. For months beforehand, I read every scrap of info I could get and spent a good chunk of each day preparing both my supplies and my brain. As it turns out, you can be over-prepared. I feel like I missed some of the wonder and amazement that a first-time burner generally experiences because I had worked so hard on getting an accurate mental image/understanding of the burn beforehand. Burning man was exactly what I expected it would be... and while that wasn't a disappointment exactly, it certainly didn't bowl me over like I thought it might. Bottom line
: learn enough to survive, but don't obsess over knowing everything. I know it's tough with so much time left to plan, but if you're anything like me, leaving some surprises to be uncovered out there is worth it.
It makes sense if you don't think about it.
