2012 Costco CarPorts?

I used the sturdy reliable fat leg (what was it 3"?) 10x20 Costco carports for years with my old camp, now I want to buy a few more for the new camp but they are nowhere to be found. Anyone have any idea if they are discontinued?

Best I can find right now prete de porter is some ShelterLogic 2" stuff.

They are seasonal items and once they sell out in any particular year, they are gone. I think people have reported them in particular cost-cos recently, past couple of weeks. (Search. If you aren't getting anywhere, try google with "+eplaya" as a term.) At this point, I'd suggest calling nearby cost-cos and finding out availability from them. And that is cost-cos, because they aren't all going to run out at the same time.
As I recall, these are not sold on the web, so it is important to call and go to stores.

Just like threads asking this sold-out carports question every year, they'll never be discontinued. Maybe sold out. Still, I've seen them for sale every time I've visited the past year (including a week or two ago). The irony last year was that I recall seeing one on sale at Costco in Reno the night before the gates open.

Ah, thanks. It was hard for me to imagine that they could be at the retail locations and not on the web, but I guess that's the case! I'll start making calls tomorrow.

I don't recall ever seeing them in either of the two Costco stores we go to.

Reno Costco had them about 2 weeks ago.

I use my carport at home home and recently a snow/rain/wind storm whipped up and four of the legs bent when it blew over (I stake it down much more for the playa but not so much at my house).

The goods news is myself and four friends were able to slowly bend the legs back and brace them with some angle iron and pipe clamps, whew!

As others have said, they are a seasonal item. They get them in the spring, and when they sell out they are gone. Sometimes when they only have a few left they move them around in the store. So look around, or ask them.

If you do call or ask them, ask for the item number. Some people have reported that the employees had problems finding them in their system because they looked in the wrong category. The item number this year is 496840.

Costco by Arden in Sacramento had them a few days ago still.

I just called the Costco here in Spokane, and they still have the carports at $217.99! Coolbeans!!

Available now at several (not all) Cost-cos in the San Francisco Bay area.

if they are not at your local Costco you might want to try Pep Boys. they sometimes have that or an alternate 12X26 with 2" steel poles around $250. i have two of those and they're tough as nails. if you want walls you can lay it down sideways clamshell style:

as of last week, the costco in northeast indianapolis had 10 of them. so they're out there!

That is because they weigh over 100 lbs.

My Costco carport was bombproof. Never even used the pins to connect. Just gravity and 4 ropes. Survived 5 years and I gave it away before my hiatus. I will get another one next year when funds permit.

Just bought one at the Hawthorne store in So Cal. The box is over 150lbs and almost 7feet long in case you were thinking of picking one up. Bring a truck!

I have been doing my best to search this site for other brands, and have seen a few people mention ShelterLogic. Anyone have experience with that brand? Thank you!

Just so you all know, Costco carports are a seasonal item. About Aug 1st they transition into furniture and sweep out all of the outdoor gear, including the carports.

ShelterLogic absolutely kicks ass. They make a 10x10 that is every bit as strong as a Costco carport, but the right size for some people who don't need 20x10. But they are expensive.

Be Careful, I just noticed the Carports down here in Southern California in the store had some weird design mod that I'm not sure is a good thing.

It looked like they had a side door, running along one of the 20' sides with some jenky telescoping arm crap and some awning. If they messed with the structural integrity of a crossbeam and added some Ez-up level arms I see this thing snapping in the wind. Also, you now lose one set of 20x10 sides to completely seal a side of the carport.

The old kind i'm used to ( and still have ) is simple. No hoakey doors or whatnot. Make sure you examine the 2012 carports closely.

There isn't *one* design, they've changed them every other year in the past. Mine has a weird curtain like thing for the front door. The year before that it had those little airvents in the top. The year before that the corner pieces were different from the top pieces. And so on.

As far as I saw on the pics from this years box, I think the awning thing is optional. You can put them up for extra shade, but you can also put them down to get the regular look. Disclaimer: I've only seen the pictures.

mine have janky awning/window things which are 100% optional. (i have 3, one was bought in 2010, 2 were bought in 2011, all three from indianapolis area costcos).

i simply do not attach the metal awning frame to the main frame and i keep the window opening on the side tarp zipped up. it's no biggie.

From what I've read on this forum (no first hand experience though) I think the Costco ones were around $200. Not positive though!

The sears, walmart, target, home depot, shelterlogic, etc. carports are around the same cost', yeah, around $200.

As for the Costco, I got mine free from a friend. I hope that helps.

Make sure that the one you're buying doesn't have the turnbuckle system. Much more labor intensive to put up. It should be spring loaded buttons to secure, no wires or turnbuckles.

I see that the Walmart unit has only 1 3/8 inch tubing. That's rather flimsy. I've seen 2 inch units in my neighborhood, so look for that. I suspect that may be why the Costco units became so popular to begin with -- but don't know if they are still that stout. I have seen other brands on the interweb with 2 inch tubing.

My Costco Carport has cotter pins to hold the pipes in place. Yes, somewhat more labor intensive, but also impossible for it to fail. Spring loaded buttons don't work forever. Besides, since Costco never has a choice on which model they are selling, not sure how you can avoid a specific feature without turning to another (more expensive) source for your shelter or using a time machine to find the model you want.
