My history is mostly scots-irish, with french, german, etc thrown in.
Our family were kings in the 8th century in ireland, but the last name doesn't exist there now, so there may have been political problems.
Immigrated to the usa 200 or so years ago.
Of course, it's all sort of arbitrary when you go back enough generations.
In 18 generations, you have a blood connection to every person on earth, I'm told.
Even relatives are more about the family you choose.
That's what I know about anyway.
We used to joke about being related to everyone in the small towns our family is from.
When people started tracing these things, it turned out to be true.
I was persuaded to come to burning man in 1995 or so, by someone that hasn't been back since 1997.
Says everything was ruined by then.
Couldn't make it for many years, so the burning man I came for was long gone.
I had these connections and awareness of so much going on, that was history when I got there.
It's a bit like two lives.
I had known some people ten years when I hit the playa.
I came for the art cars.
I go back for the people I meet.
And I like BIG FIRE too!
I'm missing this year, because I seem to have decided it will be more fun to move everything I still own, twice in 100 degree heat instead.
I like to get out there before the city is finished, and be part of that.
Maybe that's why I do it?
Your guess is as good as mine.
