Mist vs. Swamp

Postby Andrei » Tue Jul 31, 2012 12:17 am

I wanted to build a swamp cooler but because I am traveling and can't prebuilt it and test it at home got to thinking of alternatives.

What do you know, experienced about mist producing cooler "car humidifiers"

Would something like this work for a tent?
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/3 ... ?locale=en
http://shop1.laservers.com/merchant.mv? ... gory_Code=

Are they inferior to the all mighty swamp coolers?
From what I read the spraying nozzle gets staffed with dust but I can solve that. (find a good one, bring extra, clean it)

To my understanding, swamp cooler system is just a way to make water evaporate faster to increase humidity in a closed space. Right? Maybe few mist producing coolers can match that.

Let me know that you think.

I was also considering this unit. Will have to buy an extra cooler but, did anyone used it? How did you like it?

it’s not a swamp cooler really.

Thank you for advice

The first one will use a LOT of power and not help at all.

The second one works fine for personal cooling as long as you keep sprying your self.

The last one will work if you have enough money to buy a lot of ice.

The first link is for something that belongs indoors. Its mist will quickly be blown away on the playa.
The second, a personal misting fan, well, I've seen them a lot out there. I prefer a garden mister, Mister.

Pump it up and away you go!

Some people rely on it for a "shower". You could rig it up inside your tent to mist by itelf without you holding it, but you'd have to pump it once in a while.

Those tiny emiters use a half gallon of water per hour EACH.

I vote cooler, but I'm biased. 8)

I tried a mister several years ago under our shade.... if it's in the wind it will blow away. The drips that are inherent in the mister system will turn the playa in your camp into a mud pit.

YMMV, but I just don't think it works.

I use one of these & clip the misting end to a small fan. does the trick inside my ten or under the shade.

yep, I was worried about this shit last year. :-)
turns out its not even hot there. its dry, which is a nice thing because the humidity is what makes it bad.

the spray bottles from a dollar store is all you need, in my opinion
