Showers in Gerlach-Empire

Postby Your Pharmacist » Sat Jul 28, 2012 10:48 am

Does anyone know if there is anywhere to get a real shower in Gerlach-Empire taking the daily shuttle from BRC?

Just as an FYI: going to Gerlach on the shuttle is going to cost you most of a day. Catch shuttle, drive to Gerlach, do what you're doing, make sure you don't miss suttle back, get back in line for Gate, wait wait wait through Gate (you did remember to bring your ticket, didn't you?), go through Greeters, wind slowly back to BRC, get dropped off at the shuttle stop, bike or hike back to camp... just to be all covered in dust again (basically by the time you've passed Gate)

Make friends with someone in an RV if you're desperate to shower or make a simple sun-shower set-up (look around the board, plenty of instructions), or, better yet, just say "fukkit". I used to shower once a week, now I do "pits & bits", wash my face & my hands (all with baby wipes) and done.

If you think you're going to hate the dust so much you need to leave the event to shower... well, it's probably not the right event for you.

Yes, the answer is no.

Funny, I thought the Survival Guide always had something about not pestering the locals. All it says is you must be sober and "dressed for town".

I haven't volunteered at the bus depot for a few years, but we wouldn't sell a bus ticket if they couldn't show us a ticket stub in hand.
I'm too jaded to think up a good sig-line. Need more coffee.

You DO NOT have to go to Gerlach for a shower/bath. For one of the most interesting bathing experiences of your life attend the Human Carcass Wash at PolyParadise Camp. I always come out of that daily event much happier than when I went in...and clean!

Check the Who, What, Where, When Guide for exact location and times.

I don't think there are any showers in Gerlach, anyway. If there were, the number of people taking advantage of the service would overwhelm the town.

Actually, I believe the shuttle bus has permission to skip the line for Gate. In any case, the line is pretty tame by Tuesday. From my experience riding the shuttle, it takes about three hours of your day on a Wednesday afternoon.

Just remember to keep your mouth closed and wear goggles. The water from the trucks is non-potable and has been known to cause "fun" eye infections.
