Covering the chain on a mtn bike?

I can't really afford a new (or a used) cruiser bike that would have the chain cover on it. Anybody have ideas on a way to cover the chain for a mountain bike, so I don't get snagged on my costumes?

If you've ever seen a person with a bandanna on one ankle before.
Now you know why.

But really, a bandanna, or any other cloth works just fine to cover and secure clothing from the chain. Or you could hike up the garment and tie it to your waste somehow.
Just an idea.

you could try splitting an old garden hose length wise and slipping it over the chain, and use duct tape (not zipties due to the bump) ,to secure the ends the you fit closely together.
Put a half twist in it, to create a "Moebius hose" so that only one side faces out.

If the crap hangs low enough to hit the top of the chain, it's going to get caught on the lower part of the chain & crank as well. ASKING FOR A NEW OR USED CHAIN GUARD AT A BIKE SHOP might help, or just make it harder to deal with the bike.

I was once asked how I kept my sarong from snagging in my bike chain. I replied that I ride naked. Simple.

When I'm wearing something long and flowing, I gather up my skirt on the top of one thigh and tie it into a rosette, and make sure my undies are acceptable, just in case (stuff you don't mind being seen call are called "social panties". ) When I hope off the bike, I dissolve the rosette.

Garter clips are also good. Kilt pins help. Lots of little tricks.

I just let the bike be the bike, and adapt my outfit. If you don't have a good handle on your clothes, covering the chain is cool, but it might not be enough to avoid issues.
