way back when, in the mid-nineties, i went with my dear friend to burning man for the first time.
it was her first time too, but she was in san francisco, and knew alot of burners.
on the way there, in the middle of the open playa, (you just had to drive "north" for 20 miles back then, until you saw BRC) she opened up her little book of questions and one (or group) in particular continues to play inside my head every day.
you go to the doctors, he tells you you have one year to live....what do you do?
where would you go? Whom would you see?
ok, now the doctor says, wait a second, i read that wrong, you have one month to live...
same questions.
whoops he fucked up again and says you have one week....Now What?
the nurse comes in with yet another chart and the now red-faced doctor says, i am so sorry, but it's only ONE DAY...
make your decisions on how you are going to live whats left...
my point is not so much Carpe Diem, because that is important, but dont just eat that Hamburger, EAT THE HELL OUT OF IT, it may be the last one you EVER HAVE...EVER
do you really want to have regrets as the Bus is bearing down on you?
this is not to say throw everything away because we are all fucking doomed (thats another story) but instead SAVOR THE FLAVOR!!!
enjoy your life, make it meaningful, go for the brass ring...
BE A PIRATE!
take life by the balls, or tits, or whatever you wanna grab on to, it's an adventure, to it's fullest..steal it if you have to.
sure, Pirates are Opportunists, but we live by a code.
that code may not coincide with the Law, but there is HONOR amongst thieves, and often thats all we have, and would prefer death to losing it.
Burning Man made me ask that question almost every day....ok, Im Above Ground and Breathing, hot Damn!!! Now What?
every day, EVERY DAY, you never know who you will meet, or what will happen.
it's better than any video game, chat room, tv show, religion, drug, food. or even sex.
LIFE, CHAI, To Be.
it's the only thing we got, and eventually we will be dust, and ALL go back home to whence we came.
i never realized this until i saw the wide open space of nothing, and it struck me that all of my ancestors were there too, and that someday, maybe sooner than later, i would be dust as well.
BURN LIKE THERE'S NO TOMORROW.
and love life with all you got.
Yaaarrrrr.
