The best part about snark is that--hopefully--it'll weed out the individuals that we'd rather not suffer the indignity of bearing their presence. Not only do we get to be entertained by "preying" on the deserving "victims", but they may even leave!

It's not a campaign to get people to leave or feel unwelcome, but that result can be a beneficial side-effect. We're not going to walk on eggshells around people just to make them feel welcome. You don't attract interesting people by pretending that everybody can get along.

In the end, it's not up to us what the person decides to do, and we're not going to be worse off whatever the decision. To use the hunger-striking protester analogy: we're not the ones starving you (though you may not think that); you're starving yourself. If your protest has earned you nothing and you decide to leave (or in the striker's case, die), now we're free of what could be an obnoxious presence--and we didn't even have to do any work. And who is really missing all the great stuff on ePlaya? Not us. We're still here. It's the person leaving.

I just wanted to say that you are awesome!!! I really think we see eye to eye on this and I’m glad you brought it up. I feel that there are a lot of folks that read the e-playa threads and really want to participate in discussions but are too scared to actually join in because it seems kind of intimidating and un-welcoming. Whether, this is true or not, it certainly does SEEM that way quite often to me. I even feel like I have to triple check check my grammar just so I don’t get called out for it. I actually sought out a discussion about this topic because I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me. EPlaya always seems like an awesome resource for information and as a community for Burners but I feel that it can seem like a little club that is really quite hard to infiltrate if you don't have especially thick skin.
I just want to tell you, again, that you are freakin awesome and I am proud to say I can share the Columbia Gorge as home with the likes of you!
