kinda hits home, especially with the inevitable influx of new blood.

and if they cant abide by our community standards, which are broad and very wide, then people need to tell said offenders to alter that behavior or GTFO.

Like i have Said, community shame works wonders in most situations.

for those who may be under the influence of one thing or another, a different approach of singling out, separating and diffusing and calming said individual is usually best.

and if it seems out of your or your group's control, get a ranger....if they cant handle it, then the LEO's come.

the process does work, and nothing would make me happier than never ever having to use force or violence on sacred dust.

In all the years that I have been going to BM, there have only been a handful of times that I have run across blazing idiots that have left at the gate all their inhibitions, including the ones that keep them from being raging assholes. The only two times in my life that I could, arguably, have been chastised by LEOs for aggressively dealing with such assholiness were at BM. (Note the deliberate avoidance of the word assault - after all, one such incident involved my weapon of choice, a cup of frozen sorbet, applied by pouring it over the perpetrator's head).

Thanks Fish for pointing out the word "manifest", even though you wrote that years ago it seems more poignant now. I would add the phrase "the playa will provide". What you describe is just how I feel about anyone who tries to sneak in - they are stealing from all those who work hard and sacrifice to be there.

As a lumpy old gal, I rarely get hit on. Now and then, and usually delightfully polite invitations. Larry gets more, from men and women, but no groping. However, one inebriated lady kept after him. He went back to camp, but I stayed at the Golden Cafe. Next thing I know, this same woman (roughly my age) was crawling in my lap and sucking my neck. I mostly laughed as I was a bit lit myself, but I was annoyed she gave me hickies. HICKIES!? Euw. Yes, there are pictures, but not in my possession.

Sometimes the ribbon needs to be shoved up the nose, so to speak.

i have developed the ability to hone in on pretty much anyone's internal, psychological jugular, and if necessary i will rip it out with a few words.


whether i do it with a razor or a rusty serrated blade depends on my mood.


it is a curse and a blessing, but i do not tolerate overly aggressive sexual behavior towards me and especially my girlfriend.

and there are more then a few burners walking around with mental stitches because they crossed that line.


i'm also pretty scary when i'm mad, which tends to shrivel even the most amorous pepe le pews.

I think it's important for EVERYONE, new burners and OLD to practice proper etiquette, and learn the pleasures of "Please" and "Thank You".....these two magic words are principles 11 and 12.

Just because some people may have different boundary lines, and are openly flaunting them, does NOT mean that it is the norm, or accepted , except maybe to a select few, and this does not give anyone the right to assume the lowest common denominator are the rules of the game.

This also applies to those predators out there that prey on the vulnerable, either via drugs or alcohol.

i have two daughters, i have told them 1000 times never ever leave their drink, and only take from trusted sources, and watch the pour....

Because if i catch any asshole taking advantage of a situation under the cover of General Free for All, i WILL hurt them, and THEN hand them over to the authorities.

i do have my exceptions to my no-violence rule.

I have two daughters as well and have told them this myself many times. My youngest (22) will be on playa this year as well. She is pretty smart and aware! She has a biting wit and can usually put someone in their place or make them walk away in shame. She also throws a mean punch and will not hesitate to use it if need be. You couldn't tell any of this by just looking at her or by meeting her for the first time (unless your being an asshole). She is really very kind and kind of shy at times, 5'8", slim and gorgeous with red hair. Oh yeah, the red hair might be a hint

As her mom I do worry about her...but can't wait for you all to meet her.
