Art raffle for Wayward Art, win a FoodSaver!

Are you some type of artist? Would you like to donate art to the Home for Wayward Art? Would you like a chance to win a new, in the box with extra bags FoodSaver vacuum sealer? Then this is the art raffle for you!

I have a brand new FoodSaver for some lucky burner, or non-burner, I'm not picky.

YOU: Send art to me via USPS. Must live in the continental US with a street address where I can UPS your prize.

The Art: any non-MOOPing medium such as paintings, collages or photography. 3x5 up to 11x14. Must be mounted and sturdy.
Entries must have your name, address, email and phone number in the package, but not on the art (unless you want the new parent to know who you are). Quality and quantity are not really factors, one entry per person.
(although more art means more happiness for others later)
(note: charcoal and pastel sketches don't hold up well in playa dust, or anything done on black board)

Me: will accept entries until July 12th, then will take entries in person at the Utah regional burn until Monday, July
16th. I will draw a random name and send the Foodsaver on or before July 21st. This should give you enough time to cook, seal and freeze your playa meals!

Aside from being a great cause all on its own, I've got to tell ya, vac-sealers are great for playa food prep! We got one several years back and wouldn't ever consider going without. We pre-cook meals, and cut up freshies then seal it all up in advance and it really does keep stuff fresh.

Hey, the definition of art is very loose here. I also have a deep appreciation for effort, vision, and poor execution if it has heart. Wayward Art is just that, straying from the main ideals.

"Art" covers a lot more of human creativity than the product of Western Art Renaissance and beyond. A whole lot more. Well, you can't donate the plans from past projects, apparently, but you don't have to confine yourself to a sheet of paper/canvas anyway. Try doing landscape architecture really, really small--and see what happens.

"Try doing landscape architecture really, really small".....What I see in front of me is a cup with sea monkeys in it. I dabbled in Bonsai for a bit, and had tons of aquariums/terrariums. Let me ponder this awhile. I will be contributing, as I just spent 3 hours on the lawnmower....thinking about this very thing. Reminds me of a line from a Talking Heads song....."If this is paradise, I think I need a lawn mower". I am a photographer, but I view my pictures as record keeping, not art. For instance, this man and his pig in the high mountains of Costa Rica would be lost forever, had I not been there to keep a record of their existence.

mgb327, you should totally do a collage with "matter of fact" photos you take (like this Costa Rica man and pig photo). It would be fun and maybe you could add a storyline.

You could cover it in slightly watered-down white glue (Elmer's or the like) an inexpensive découpage.

my art is poetry and that sporadic and not worth reading twice but its fun and i meant to gice some copies to the wayward art foundation last year but put it down and lost it. oh well maybe i will forget again this year

If given a choice I would découpage everything! Tabletops, wall hangings, globe, passport holder, suitcase, photo frames... oh my... my mind is whirling.

I have a friend (Paul the Ancient Burner) who contributes photos, mounted and with a typed paragraph telling the story of the photo (back or front depending on the presentation). The subjects are matter of fact, or just interesting, personal, historic and so on. Some are very artistically mounted, and he does do collages. One was studio cards of starlets from the 40s with commentary, one a print of Metropolis set up to look like an old film can. Some are just personal photos. Marvelous work and a look into lives and worlds which otherwise would be unknown. He covers his photos in a UV plastic cover which can be removed later.

He did one of his sister hugging an ugly fish lamp, with the tale of what it meant to her attached to the back. A very special piece of art.

I did get it, very nice. Thank you so much! Not what I usually do, but it will go to the regional first, and then to Burning Man if it doesn't get adopted in Utah. I'll have to keep it in plastic or it will be a dust magnet.
