Homebrew Tasting

On Wednesday evening, 4:00pm, Skinny Kitty Teahouse will host the second annual Zymurgist Flocculation. All homebrewers, vintners, meadmakers, and cider hardeners are invited to bring samples of their libations to share with oother yeast wranglers. Last years event had a variety of good beers, wine, cider, and mead.

Nope, that was "Homebrew for Homebrew" - a gang of homebrew enthusiasts out of Reno. GREAT guys. I think my wife and I and a couple of our camp mates were there at least twice a day every day last year.

Props to Skinny Kitty Teahouse too! They had such a great atmosphere and wonderful art with the mummy kitties and stuffed mouse angels, and such great, uplifting refreshing tea.

How about we do a Playa brew?

I will be on Playa from the 11th onward. With the right recipe and if brewed that evening we could force carbonate and even have a few days conditioning on the beer.

Lets hear a few recipes for an appropriate Playa ale.

Alt, kolsch, dry English ale, looking for a fast yeast, fast ferment.

If I remember right GAWD did a Wit last year on the playa, ferment was 6 days, we kegged it and served it at the coffin. It was an extract beer just to keep it simple and reduce the mess.

I think I would try an amber if I was going to be out there that long.
Do you need a recipe?
I have some at home.

Someone gave me a nice homemade stout last year. It was thicker than espresso.

I was thinking a Wit or Saison. I need to use a yeast that works on the high side of the temperature scale and the Belgium strains are a good fit.

I am more asking for folks to chime in on a style they would like to have made on playa. Makes it more fun when folks can get involved.

So, pick a style of beer you would like knowing that it will likely be brewed with a Belgium yeast strain.

If not, I'll just pick something convenient, like a Wit and Oatmeal Stout.

I do know GAWd and am looking forward to the foaming coffin.
Another playa brewed beer will be a taste to remember.Brew a barleywine!
I hope we have as many meads as last year.

Thanx to all the yeast wranglers who avoided excess taxes and brought wine, cider, beer, and mead, especially the keg of mead w/ Japanese citrus. The second Zymurgist Flocculation was awash in homebrew and will happen again next year, so you have time to brew a strong ale.

Tokken, how was the playa brew? I missed it, as well as much else.
