After a fun conversation at a birthday party Friday, I've realized how much I want to re-read some of L. Frank Baum's "Oz" books. Books 2 through 6 in particular. Now I gotta figure out where I put them . . .

Have you seen any of the early Oz films?

I like them.
Not as grandiose as the 1939 remake, but more fun.

I have seen only the classic 1939 film and 1985's Return to Oz, which sort of combines books 2 and 3. (Worth seeing. Also, interestingly creepy.) Interesting to know there are other earlier films out there.

Just got around to reading the Hunger Games trilogy. I'd resisted, but I do like to read the book before I see a movie based on it. I was prepared for something along the lines of the twilight series, but was pleasantly surprised. I really like her main character, and they are an easy read so you can blow threw them in a weekend.

I'm trying to find the "Amber" series (10 books) be Roger Zelazney......but, as individual books.
I have "The Great Book of Amber", but, it's huge.

YAY TK! I was too really liked the Hunger Games trilogy. I too thought it would something like the Twilight books (which I haven't read) so I resisted reading them for quite a while.

On a friend's recommendation I picked up a book called "Ready Player One." It was really quite fun to read. I'm a bit (of a BIG) nerd and it has lots of fun 80s nostalgia.
Totally recommend it as a fun read.

More recently a friend lent me "Hunger Games" and I read it while on vacation. It was a fun read.

Now 2 friends have given me: "The Conundrum" & "50 Shades of Grey."

I just finished Prelude to Foundation. Not sure what is up next, but if you are looking for ideas, take a look at The Mushroom Shift, but Joe Clifford Faust. I was my first real proofing job, and the kindle version is free this week on Amazon.

It is the story of the night shift of a small town sheriff's office and the politics of that office.

i am on the second to last book in a monster of a series "The Malazan Book of the Fallen" by Steven Erickson. Each book is about 800 pages, and there 10 books in the series. It is hands down the most awesome and epic series i have ever read. Blows Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time and Game of Thrones out of the water in terms of depth and scope. Strongly recommend it.

have you ever read the zombie story "Day by Day Armageddon"? It is from the POV of an Air Force officer and I found most of the military portrayal to also be pretty accurate. (The author is an active duty officer so I think that helped!)

Just finished book 1 of the Abarat series, and trying to slow down so I don't burn through books 2 and 3 too fast... though I already know I'll be done both by the end of the month.

It was a 7 year gap between books 2 and 3, and I can already feel the agonizing wait for the fourth and fifth ones to be released. I can't imagine it taking up to 14 more years to finish the series.
