crazy question i know: michigan vs alabama game?

so i'm a freaking HUUUUUUUGE michigan wolverines football fan... yeah yeah yeah, i know, not exactly the standard "burner interest", but i is what i is

the michigan vs. alabama game is happening on sept 1st this year, and it's kind of a big deal to fans of both teams... i was wondering if anybody is going to have the game on radio or tv or satellite radio or whatever... i'd love to hang out with some fellow fans at the burn and enjoy the game... so if anybody has some insight into this, that would be greatly appreciated!

I'm just checking to see if anybody else is already doing it. Why re-invent the wheel? I probably *could* do it, though it would be difficult since I'm Canadian and don't have access to the same satellites that the US folks do, but if somebody else is already doing it.... well, you get the idea.

I like football. High school football was fun because I actually knew the players, college = sure, whatever . . . and I watched a couple of Packers seasons (and not just because it was an excellent excuse to eat bacon and drink beer at 10am with friends, although that was certainly delightful). But if there was a game--or any show--I wanted to watch that fell during Burn week I would record the game and rest assured that by the time I got home, I could easily catch a several-day-old game without spoilers.

Coming back to society three days after a game is not the danger zone of spoilage. It's not like the morning after, when you have to avoid the news cycle, or the first few hours after a game, especially in town, when someone is likely to walk up to you on the street and say "Did you see the Wolverines' winning touchdown? Smith's pants fell down! It was awesome."

Among 50,000 people I'm sure somebody will have it via a dish on their RV. Join the appropriate regional lists and put the word out, maybe you'll get a response. Expect a lot of sour church-lady replies similar to the above. Alternative might be a good AM radio setup, at the least you'll get updates from whatever sports stations you can pick up.

i'll be able to listen to it on satellite radio easily enough, but it would be good to find a TV... i'll put the word out in the regional lists, as that is a really good idea, and likely my best bet for success - thanks for the idea

Does broadcast television reach into the playa?

Nevada is pretty far west for the networks to show an SEC and Big10 game, but it looks like just about everything else that weekend is a cupcake matchup - maybe USC vs Hawaii is somewhat interesting, Navy vs Notre Dame has to be nationally televised but is at 9 am, but I am guessing that Michigan vs Alabama will be the talked about game of the week and has a very good shot at being nationally televised.

It would be interesting if broadcast made it out to the playa, but I'd doubt the game would be shown in the market. Satellite is your best best, followed by pirated recording on the interweb. A hardware system like TracVision would probability work best for you if you go satellite since it can receive broadcasts from both Canadian and US providers. So better return overall for the investment.

You could always walk up to an RV that looks like it's worth more then your house and ask to watch the game.

Of course you could always convince someone coming into the city after the game has aired to bring in a recording of it.

That's a good point! Michigan fokes sometimes put up a mitten, or a mitten and fish instead of a flag.

Looking at this out of curiosity, I am pretty much sure that the game will be nationally televised. This is no ordinary game. They are playing it in Cowboy field in Texas, and tickets on stubhub are going for $180 just to stand, to $375 for an actual seat in the nosebleed section, to $35k for a corporate booth. ESPN is paying the schools 4.7 million dollars each. 85,000 people will be there. It is being billed as essentially a pre-season bowl game.

This is a major religious experience for Michigan fans. Maybe you should make it an event at the Temple?

that would be correct. kinda hard to see, but look for the yellow fish in the center, that would be the up, the blue mitt lp is harder to see. sorry I didnt foresee this post and take a close up

Right from the comfort of me own defaultopia living room, 20 minutes up the road from Ann Arbor, where on a clear day one can hear the whimper of fans at the Big House, remembering days when Bo ruled, and won.

BTW Fishy, cousin Pikey is safe and secure in the north waters of Ontario. And I was nice enough to throw all of your Aunt Bassie's back. Though your Uncle Smallmouth stole one of my lures. Sigh.....there's always one in every family.

Wish I could help you this year, best advice would be to look around your neighborhood for satellite dishes and anything indicating CFB fandom. Worst thing that happens is you meet some new people...

In 2007, I woke up haggard on Saturday morning and on a whim went to a "College Football Tailgate" listed in the events guide. Turned out the host was a UM grad, psychologist from Santa Monica, numerous very nice bottles of wine being cracked, some guy read my aura, chips & dip, and as it turned out he forgot his XM receiver so we were listening to updates on some AM radio station. If you'll recall, this would have been the infamous App. State game, which only made the experience that much more surreal. That was the beginning and end of my experiences with Michigan Football at Burning man. Usually power up espn.com once I have the iphone back into data service on the way home and go from there.
