Was one of the good thing about having those huge, built into the wall bleachers that one could sneak behind. I looked at these guys, most of whom were, of course, all full of themselves, and when the coach said that it was like he suckerpunched the lot of them. I guess, for an old WW2 sergeant, it was kinda expected, but still, that was a shitty thing to do to those "young men".

Honestly, up until that point, it was probably the most couraageous thing I had done - get caught on the wrong side of that half court line, you got suspended for 3 days, no ifs ands or buts. And in our family, you may have well just handed me the pistol to do myself in. But I couldn't see them go into that game like a bunch of wounded puppies.
