Hi I am going to bring a banner at my camp that has my friend name on it, and put it on my tent would this be ok to do, it 3f X 8f long ?

I think 3 pvc pipes would work at each end.

That is the same size as our camp's sign. We tie it to three steel fence posts and it does fine.

Sailboard masts are good for this, you can sometimes find them used at shops that service them, on the net, etc. Could extend them with steel fence tubing. Mount on a t-stake fence post, guy it in three directions, blablabla.

If the primary reason to do this is so that your friend can find you I would advise several more methods of communication. Black Rock City is huge!!!!... Posting your exact location in the Database at Playa info using pre agreed upon name or nickname. Posting a small message on the bulletin board. Narrowing down the area where you will camp in BRC prior to your arrival and sticking too that choice. Or perhaps your reason is totally different.
