Black Rock Island, anyone?

I have been a Burner for 4 years now. This year will be my 5th Burn.
I think sparking ideas in the community will be the best way to get the event to continue to grow. I want to share my ideas and hopefully get discussion going on ways that we can expand.

I feel Burning Man has seemingly outgrown Black Rock city. We need to find a way to expand beyond the border of the Black Rock desert. I think this can be done by purchasing an island.

I imagine BMORG purchasing a desert island off the coast somewhere. We could then use that land to host our city and event.
The island should be deserted with no indigenous people. Lush plant and animal life is necessary since us Burners are used to the barren lake bed.
According to http://www.privateislandsonline.com/ there are numerous islands that are available for sale.

If necessary BMORG, couple build some permanent infrastructure like a seaport and an airport.
I think it would be essential for the growth and maintenance of the community to have as little permanent infrastructure as possible so there is room to development adapt and change and the community continues to grow.

The event could still embody leave no trace. Everything could be packed in and taken out by the participants of the event.

I think we have a large enough community that participants could develop transportation plans.

What are your thoughts?

I think the logistics would be much more difficult than you think. First getting across the country to near the island, then getting from the gigantic car park, unpacking your stuff from the car then packing it back up again on a boat and going across water and unpacking your stuff again when you get off. Transportation will actually be more difficult and more of a bottleneck than it is now. We've already out grown that island. How many people do the NYC and Seattle ferries move in a week? How much infrastructure does that take? What is the cost?

And that's before some drunk or high person starts climbing cliffs or falling into the water...

it'd all be solvable, Fishy, with a fleet of Simon's "hover bikes"........
maybe we could train ex-Navy dolphins as "water sherpas" to get our stuff across, and, get a contingent of Mormons to pray for pelicans, to bring extra water in those big beak sacks?

Of course, it'd be all vegan cuisine, except for "New Guinea native night".

and we could have a "Lord of the Flies" night, too!!!

Ok, so transportation out there would be a total pain in the ass.

We will just also need air planes that dump out sky divers, ferrys to take the cars, and a battleship on tank treads to take everyone across the ocean.

It's just that some ideas are simply not practical. And the crossing of water seems to me -- and apparently to several of us -- to be the very "poster boy" of impracticality for our purpose.
