Theme Camp Applications

Does anyone know how long they are taking to process these? Our camp has had an application in for a couple of weeks now with no word back.

It takes more than a couple of weeks. Especially as there's probably extra care needed this year, with the camp specific tickets.

The messages I received from placement (I'm coordinator for my camp) indicated that even for pre-approved camps it would take 3-5 days to hear something back. For any of us that aren't in that group, questionnaires were due by March 8th - now they've got to take a look at what tickets they have left and determine who they can help. I'd guess that's at least 3-5 days, I'll check and see if I can get any info.

You may want to note that the March 8th cut off was only for camps that wanted to be considered for the"camp incentive"ticket offer,Think you have 5 more weeks to register the camp itself.We were notified on our camps status 4 days after we filed our registration.

We received a phone call from Placement regarding our ticket allotment and "guarantee" of being placed about 2 weeks ago. Rev Bloodshot, who has always been our advisor, said the emails will go out with the purchase codes at the end of March.

Placement normally is confirmed the first week of July. Because of the ticketing issues, they advised us in advance so we could move forward with planning.

We registered the first day that you could. Didn't really hope to get anything. I had already scored a ticket for my wife and hope to get one for working at DMV last year, and promising to work again this year. So I might have tickets without having to use any of those alloted for other guys in our camp. Didn't get one for the MV we entered. Man I am looking forward to going, even if it might be a little weird after all this crap we have been through. It isn't going to work out for everyone, but it's going to be about as good as it could be after all that has happened. Wish everyone could go!

Our organizer for Couch Surfers camp said our camp was not chosen. I think our app was in a week and half before the deadline and she just heard back a few days ago.

Your camp must be near ours. We have also heard from Rev Bloodshot, who has always been our placer. We got a few tickets but it was enough to ensure that our camp can and will be in BRC in 2012!

That is how it worked with us. The people that build the camp and mutant vehicle now have tickets. I don't think any of the 'casual' campers have tickets. It will be different but since the core builders are in, I can actually do a little happy dance for the first time.

Though we have about forty people that camp with us, none are "casual" in that everybody has responsibilities. Hell, how much fun would the event be if the same people had to work the service shifts every single day?! In our camp, the core people do the basic set up of the camp, training, liaise with health dept., etc. everybody else does the daily job of setting up, serving, and cleaning up for each day's shift. Not to mention the extra financial burden when the costs for supplies are now shared by less than half the number of people.

It's like being between a rock and a hard place.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I understand the realities. Just stating the facts as they pertain to and effect our camp.

We,Iike you, were ensured the builders could get there. Some of our core people have tickets, so we were allocated half the number of our set up crew. But we are also picking up new campers that will be expected to help with the day to day serving, entertaining, and interacting with camp visitors. Some are returning burners, some are virgins. But the camp will get set up and will be staffed. And it won't always be the same people; I'm volunteering at the Cafe again just to make sure I leave camp occasionally. It was so much fun last year, I didn't want to leave!

Pink. I so agree. I wouldn't miss out on volunteering at center camp either. I particularly like the part where we take a break and dance for 5 or more minutes. The sight of over 100 'coffee starved' burners dancing along with us before they've even had their coffee is memorable. Don't forget to bring your own great BIG travel mug. You'll get more for your money and save a disposable cup. That beautiful man in the long brocade coat talked me into more than one shift. I can't wait. Where do I sign.

I've been volunteering with Cafe since my second burn. I love the dance breaks too. And if I have a break (as a brewer if it's slow I get those sometimes), I go up to the front and offer advice and abuse. Free, of course. Love my Cafe peeps.

Gnome Dome got the call Saturday. We were not Pre-selected for Theme camp tickets, nor guaranteed placement.

We are still short 3 of 7 tickets for the core camp. But we'll find the tickets we need someplace.
They've requested that we notify them by April if this is going to drastically change our camp plans, or if we are pulling out.

At this time we have no intentions of not bring our entire camp, and bring it back even bigger and better than last year.
We're hoping that with so few people, maybe we can get more EA passes, so that we can get there and start setting up earlier. I'll be damned if 4 of us are going to spend the whole burn trying to set up that whole camp.

Cheer up illy, I heard if you can swing it the weeks before and after the burn are the best. I've stayed the week after, so far.

Lustrous In-Dust-rious applied a little over 2 weeks ago, and haven't heard back yet. We were not among the pre-approved because it is technically a "new" camp (made up of fragments from former camps and folks who volunteered elsewhere) only two of our participants got tickets from the BMOrg as a result a of an ongoing BM book/photography project, and we don't expect more tickets from the BMOrg.

We have adjusted our strategy accordingly. We are ditching the most labor-intensive gifts/services, focusing only on the highest value projects, and recruiting only motivated burners with tickets. It's amazing how many seasoned, motivated, burners there are without camps. We've been scooping them up left and right to replenish our numbers, which after the most recent cataclysm, were down from nearly 40 to 6 (our FL group couldn't reach critical mass to get a bunch of art cars 2700 miles and finally punted). We're back up to 12 and hoping to reach 15 so that we can still handle the projects that we view as mission critical.
