No Refrigeration Vacuum Pack Fish

I just met these folks at my coop. They are from Coos Bay, Oregon. They have vacuum packed fish in pouches that doesn't need refrigeration. The fish is processed at 200F, so should be reheatable in the pouch at temperatures under that. The usual sustainable. They have salted, unsalted, jalapeno and smoked. Equivalent to a high quality canned product, but BPA free (cans are lined with that) and useful when camping and you don't want the weight of the can. Would make a good BM food if you don't want to eat out of a can.

I like the salmon-steak-in-a-pouch route that a few brands do these days. I don't even heat 'em, since they're cooked. If you buy at the right time (before June) you can sometimes pay less than $3 each--if not much less--and with piece of bread, or half a pouch of rice pilaf, or even a fruit cup make a nice dinner prior to walking and dancing all night. When your appetite is low as it is out there, it's important to get at least some protein, and fish has a huge amount of it per oz.

Sardines are good too, but if you're not accustomed to them, test 'em before the playa.

Oo, I still have some kippered snacks from last year. I never got around to them! I ate about 20% of my food.

I need to try them finally so that I know whether to buy them again (and probably not get around to eating them--again).

I just didn't like drinking the freshly pumped blood.......it was Kippers, for me.

So does Bumblebee and Chicken of the Sea, and there are tuna steaks and flavored varieties. I always take a few to the playa. Mmmm.

I use the cans at home, cheaper.

We lost Captain Jim this year. Literally, lost at sea.
