im on a quest to search for the most delicious, sweet, long lasting fruit i could ever find :::D something i could take with me out and about the burn for like the whole week XXD a trademark fruit, something people would look at and go "oh shit theres that one lungumberry guy O.o im kinda hungry" hahahahahaha XXD or something to that effect. lol. id preffer it to be something really juicy too XXD i love juicy fruit. the wetter the better XXD in maaaaaaaany cases hahahahahaha. :::3 and anything goes, even if i cant get it, i just want to see the coolest fruits ever!!! :::D bombs away!!!!!!!

OK, so maybe not the most exotic, but certainly very refreshing and easy to carry in a back pack for a nice gift to someone. They are readily available in mesh bags, cheap to buy and last a long time before spoiling.


These little fruit cups are perfect for an afternoon boost on the fly. I toss two in my backpack each day, and offer one up to someone who may need one.

BEHOLD THE DURIAN, KING OF FRUIT



Seriously, I bought one of these monsters in college. You had to carry it in a mesh bag or it would tear up your hands. The smell is overpowering - it is actually banned in the subways of Singapore. Smells like gasoline or bad meat or something else entirely. It actually tastes pretty good and has the texture of a weird pudding.

One of my bad-idea daydreams is to set up a Durian Camp - serve durian drinks, durian dishes, make durian suntan lotion, live and bask in the smell until we acclimate and become it. We would have to warn everyone attempting to set up camp around us. The plane ride back would also be fun.

I've just started reading about figs and think they might be a great thing to bring and gift. If anyone has some feedback about figs, other than "yum they're delicious" well if you must be my guest, I'd love to hear about varieties, recipes or anything else. I found several interesting sites to buy and of course there are a couple of local co-ops that I can go to... but wonder if anyone knows about fig availability in Reno come Aug?

The "Mission" figs in coastal California seem to be and autumn/early winter thing. I have no knowledge of other fig varieties or even how many fresh and how many dried figs are sold in Reno. I wonder if you could ask safeway or some other supermarket there.

I don't know about any local co-ops that have them, and you might or might not find them at Whole Foods here in Reno beforehand, it has been hit or miss as to their availability before TTiTD, but usually have no problems getting them afterwards.

And BTW, yes they are yummy and delicious, when buying them don't get the mushy ones or ones that have bled out, as they rot faster at the broken spots where the goo is coming out.

Well I always thought peppres were a vegetable but it seems that they are actually a fruit because they produce seeds. Either way I just had to post it. Has anyone ever had an erotic vegie/fruit camp? I wonder what characteristic could be enhanced by growing it hydroponically.

bigdale, figs are delicious, but probably a major hassle to bring.

Timing is rough - I had some amazing plums where I used to live, but they ripened a few weeks too late to bring any to the playa. Feijoas would be perfect, but I believe you will run into the same problem.

Maybe stop by your local garden supply store and ask a bunch of people for recommendations on local fruit that grows in your area and ripens early, then find someone growing them.

Hmmm..... i usually eat the whole thing...course I only get dried figs...and I thought they might be kinda good dipped in choc and sprinkled with course kosher salt..ok..I am wierd......... am I thinking the wrong thing about gifting...would people just not wanna partake?
