I don't know, moon.
You make Channel Islands sound pretty damned tempting!
Shit, I might just have to take a year off Burning Man.

moonrise wrote:Channel Islands Park/Preserve, are (mostly) the same as they were 400 years ago, before the white man arrived & screwed the land up.
My freinds from highschool get into hard core scuba diving out there, they seek out sharks and what not. Sometimes they sailboat there, and camp out on the secluded beaches. I just do the State Park boat & try to get into the water and snorkel, usually. The Channel Islands Harbour is only one hour from L.A!!![]()
Yea, UD... Catalina, a place lost in time. Busier than the other islands, but still worth it. (maybe a West Coast Nantucket)
A freind blasts out to Catalina in a Turbo Charged Cigarette boat, scary, from what I hear. That Cigarette boat used to be in Tahoe, wow, what a ride!! Ultra fast,
I miss it...we call that shit "throttle therapy"...Them days are loooong gone. Here's to sail, swim, raft & float power! (or maybe rent a jet ski once a month)

Sorry, I started this thread and that's not drift.

Well, I guess it's technically off topic since I'm going to do that whether I get BM tickets or not.

Bryce in the snow is amazing, but frigid. Campgrounds are all closed, so motels are a must (Moab is incredibly overpriced anymore). Ages ago, we spent Christmas Eve sleeping in the car in Kodachrome Basin, my brother's old Chevy Nova. We'd had it on graded dirt roads, even through a river. Just carry your emergency supplies and you're good to go. There might not be any snow at all.
You do know the parks are a decent drive south of SLC? Add a couple days for sure to explore.

Thanks AntiM! Yeah, we're headed up from Los Angeles, so we'd do 2-3 parks on the way up and one or two on the way from SLC to Aspen. I've had my fill of snow camping, even when sleeping in my truck. Motels/lodges are a must!Maybe I can borrow some snowshoes in case there's a lot of snow when we get there. Any other must see places in Utah??
moonrise wrote:mud you get around don't you? Aspen and parks coming and going...don't you ever get tired? There's a great Holiday Inn in dt SLC, they have a glassed in indoor swimming pool, traffic whizzing by as you' float and swim...we stayed there and made day trips up to ski at the ski areas. On the way to the ski hills, there used to be a French restaurant named Le Q?? (I forget the spelling/name) it's all white, inside and out, nice grounds with a bajillion white peacocks (I asked, no they don't have them on the menu) it may be still be in operation.
AntiM wrote:Goblin Valley and Valley of the Gods are out of your way. Ruby Inn outside of Bryce is nice. Hole in the Rock is a fun tourist detour, and should be on your route if you're zig-zagging over to Arches. Google Utah state parks, I like Snow Canyon outside of St. George. Valley of Fire in NV, north of Las Vegas, beyond the Moapa Casino, hike in to find the petroglyphs.
AntiM wrote:Are there good ski places? That would be yes, hell yes, and do you even have to ask?
When you have dates, let me know, I might be able to give you a couple nights at Wolf Creek Resort, I have a lot of points when they roll over. Up near Ogden, but you might want a night or so someplace nice with skiing practically outside the door.

Do understand that is a big maybe, I trashed our points this year. If I can, I will, although I might ask for the housekeeping fee (something like $55).
RedHeaven wrote:AntiM wrote:You do realize Yellowstone campgrounds "sell out" and reservations that week are hard to come by? Very crowded, long lines.
There's always wonderful Southern Utah, we have five national parks and state parks that are mind blowing. Valley of the Gods, anyone? Lots of wide open BLM land for camping ....
Just 2 hours north of Yellowstone is Glacier, which I find to be much more spectacular and not so crowded.
Not enough cute guys in femo shwag for me to show off to though.
