Where Would You Be If It Hadn't Been For Burning Man/

With the exception of those of us on meds, we're all feeling anxious about BM ticket sales and the lottery. It's a natural thing. Breathe deeply; find your center. and all that stuff....

Are some of us feeling entitled to entry into Burning Man every year? If there were no Burning Man, would some of us have no life at all?

I'm curious, free association here, what would you imagine your life would be like if Burning Man had never existed? Would you be resigned to a drab, bleak existence, or would you have come up with something equally brilliant on your own????

One of these years I intend to climb Mt. Hood.

I also do distance cycling. One of these summers I'm liable to bike down the west coast. This will probably lead to me biking across the US at some point.

I had a nice big swimming pool in the back yard, and filled it in because it was getting in the way of my planning for Burning Man. When I would get home in September, the closing would always be too much work after 8 days on the playa--so the pool went.
I used to take real vacations, in hotels with hot running water and restaurants. I have only photographs to remember those days!

Don't feel bad about taking the train or the dog back home. Biking upwind is overrated, plus you don't have the distinct charm of smelling your own farts.

Better than my riding partner's... After a day of eating various carbo-goo science foods there's a distinct advantage to doing a pull at the front of the line.

Considering that I survived the first 58 years of my life without Burning Man, I reckon I could survive the next 58 years without.

Woulda, shoulda, coulda. Burning Man helped me change my life in some meaningful ways, but I don't know that I wouldn't have found some other way to make them. I knew I wasn't content with the world I was living in, and would have continued looking for ways to affect a positive change. I probably would still be living in LA, though.

When did you people first start expecting Burning Man to change your life, and not the other way around? I started going because my friends kept bugging me about doing a "shower" that turned out to be the best naked mud pit ever, and never looked back.

I'm thinking of the Big Island, seeing the volcanoes from helicopter and close-up, plus spear fishing.

I don't think I've ever had the expectation that Burning Man was going to change my life. As I prepared for that first burn, people kept telling that it would, but I think I did a pretty good job of keeping expectations in check. For me, that first trip to the desert was more of an affirmation than it was anything else. It affirmed things that I'd suspected, and that damned near anything really was possible.

First world problems. There are people all over the world fighting for basic necessities and here's everyone whining about a ticket they are most probably going to get.
