PM to email / email to PM capabilities

How difficult would it be to push PMs straight to email in a full text mode.. and then have the ability to respond to said PMs directly via email?

It's kind of like how Ebay has it when you get a question from a member.. know what I'm talking about?

Or you could just click on the email icon next to a person's name (or the send email link when looking at the user's profile). It's visible if the person in question has entered their email address and enabled the option for users to contact them via email.

No.. what I mean is..

Say I receive a PM from somebody. As it sits right now, I get an email notification saying that such and such has just sent me a PM, and to please login to view it. I then click link, go to eplaya, read and reply to PM.

What I'm suggesting is that instead of a notification, I receive the actual PM with full text to my email inbox.. and to reply to the PM, I just reply to the email..

I wouldn't mind seeing a preview of the message in the email, but a email-PM gateway ends up making the forum board into essentially an email forwarding system. Plus it has to parse out all the crap from the email message to digest into a PM.

True. It just gets tedious on a mobile phone especially when you have a lot of back and forthing going on. I mean, it's do-able.. just.. as long as we're on a wish list here.

Especially as we get closer to the burn, there's tons of planning activities going back and forth. Just trying to think of ways to streamline communications amongst the community.

Are you saying that you never have any type of back and forth via PM on here to some degree?


..and are we now including eplaya in the "doing it wrong/right"? Who are you to tell me how to use eplaya besides the TOS especially when dealing with private/person-to-person communications?

I use PM to talk with people on eplaya that I don't have email addresses for. Otherwise I use email.

It would be nice to see a preview on a PM when it hits my email account (esp. on a smart phone).... It would be very cool to have a eplaya app that runs on my smartphone.

Unfortunately I do not have the motivation to make a mobile app right now.

I remember when I had some PM-conversation with someone we just took it to email directly when it became too obnoxious to use PMs. I guess I feel that if you want to use ePlaya, its main purpose is as a forum, not as a message-passing medium. PMs are good for addressing something directly and privately with respect to the forum, usually over few messages. Email is a much better tool for person-to-person conversations, and there's really no point in having ePlaya as a middleman for that purpose.
