BURN2 in Second Life October 1 - 9

BURN2 is an extension of the Burning Man festival and community into the world of Second Life. It is an Burning Man regional event, and the only virtual world event out of more than 100 real world Regional groups, and the only Regional to burn the Man!

The BURN2 organization spreads Burning Culture and the Burning Man Ten Principles (http://burn2.org/ten-principles) year round in Second Life, culminating in an annual festival of community, art and fire in the fall - a virtual echo of Burning Man itself...so BURN2.

The 2011 theme for BURN2 in Second Life mirrors the 2011 Burning Man theme; Rites of Passage.

BURN2 will kick off October 1 - 9.

You can get all the information you need to get to the Virtual Playa, even if you are not a computery type person. There is no cost associated with this event or creating an Avatar in Second Life.

Hey EmCee, good to see you here. I'm sorry we weren't able to participate this year, everything just seemed to conflict with our participating in the RL event. Looking forward to seeing what others have planned.

It really is an interesting event.. I'm Lamplighting there this year, and hopefully At the real burn in 2012!

This will be the 3rd or 4th year for my avatar to burn.. it's always fun to see what people build when physics aren't an issue! If anyone is around, look for davin romano

This would have been our 4th year to have participated. We'll enjoy taking in other peoples' creations, and I'll use the time to get caught back up on Viewer Development stuff and ideas for our island. TriloByte Zanzibar in-world.

Awesome you are coming. It has been crazy as we had a bunch of SL Burners at BURN 2. Ro and I were down at 4:20 and Walkin. We volunteered with Rangers and DMV this year. Ro did her shifts doing greendot work. I missed Zorch and saw DanofWa up at 9:00 in the med camp. Its been a real awesome spin up to this year's BURN2 though. I can't describe it..just the feel of the connectedness on our slice of the virtual playa is hinting to me that THIS burn..is gonna be something cool. We are the debut event for 64M prims, so there are some amazing builds there. Hope to see ya soon there. I am usually sitting up on the catwalk of the Black Rock Saloon in one of the Lawn Chairs in Burning Man- Deep Hole.

Second Life? My first life keeps me busy enough!

Perfect timing, I had internet installed at home finally yesterday, so I spent most the evening wandering around Burn2.. still a lot of empty lots, but the week should start filling up. Already so much to see!

It's much easier when it's empty of course.. it gets pretty slow walking around with more avatars, especially if you're like me and enjoy the graphics on full glow, full quality, etc etc..

I don't think Burn2 fills throughout the week in the same way that Burning Man does, though it'll be fun to check back through the week and see how it goes. They were either unclaimed (well, unsold), or intentionally empty because the plot owners was using the prim-count in another plot else-where on the sim. For those unfamiliar with how SL works, each region (or sim) has a max number of objects (or prims)

Yeah, for the amount of money LL makes, you'd think they'd find a way to give servers more prims. You are probably right about the shared lots, because some of those setups are rather intricate!

What kills me this year is the default radio station they have playing on the open roads.. I heard Gloria Estefan, Phil Collins, and many more randoms last night, so I turned it off and played my own.

Burn2 2011 was Awesome!! The creativity was boundless, and hey where else could I actually swing on a rope off the man??!
SkinBurn was also great fun when it finally went off, thanks for all that worked the SL playa!
