No more 2011 Costco Carports?

I thought I'd share a picture of how the silver tarp works out in it. It does make putting in some of the carport's bungee balls a hassle. It does succeed in keeping the thing from becoming such a blast furnace.

Are those the walls that come with the Costco tent? I only put up the roof, not the walls when I assembled the one I got. I bought a silver 12x20 top to hopefully reflect some sun.

Yes, these are the walls that came with it. A 12x20 silver tarp will be too wide to put under the carport top like I did. The perfect size would be 11x20. I'm considering framing in a hinged door on the side wall.

What about hanging the door on one of the corner posts?

I like the layout of entering from the center to make two kitchens. The center is already cut out for a door anyway.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm picking mine up from Costco this weekend (after I become a member of Costco... bleh.)

It sounds like the order number for the 10x20 Car Canopy (as they seem to call the carport) with the tan canopy is Item # 496840, for those still looking. And it's $199 before tax. There's still a bunch out there in the L.A. area.

And then I'm off to Home Depot for the rebar and other supplies (unless Costco sells that stuff too. I've never actually been.)

Someone else mentioned the Caravan brand. Which I saw they have at Walmart (not Costco.) Although not sure they have the canopy that comes down the side. These are half the price and come in 10x20 and 10x10 (although I think they only have 10x20 online right now.)

Yes the Costco one is the one we are talking about. No, the Walmart one isn't the same. For starters, you can see in the picture that it has only one pair of legs in the middle, where the Costco has two. Other than that it's hard to tell from the picture, but the Costco carport has pretty thick sturdy legs. I'd have to measure them, but the Walmart carport has 1-3/8" legs. That sounds thinner.

I know the Costco carport isn't cheap, and all too often these days more expensive doesn't mean better, but in this case I think there might be a reason why Walmart get's to charge only half as much.

One thing I'm not liking about the Costo carport is where the wall tarps are free to flap in the breeze where they meet the ground. I was thinking of a way I could frame in some 2x6s around the bottom perimeter using fence brackets.

You need to ask at your local outdoor store for the commercial units. They're usually in the back and of significantly higher quality than the cheap-o units on display.

For those of us who can't take carports because they don't fit into a sedan, what kind of shade structure would work? Monkey huts also aren't an option, because it requires 10' lengths of PVC.

We saw a Coleman 10' x 10' Instant Canopy at the store yesterday, with optional sunwall accessories, to create an enclosure. The way our camp is set up there is already some wind break between our tent and the prevailing winds. This is chiefly a shade structure for two people and a tent. When staked down with rebar, would it be successful? What else might you suggest at this late date? We're hoping to *buy* and not make it.

Why not take 5' lengths and a several PVC couplers? PVC is so easy to put together like Legos.
FYI, The Costco canopy I bought is only about 4 or 4.5 ft long when out of the box and immediate gratification And has 4 sides - the sides are velcro'ed on which is perfect for easy on/off.
Needed to drill the holes to 7/16 for rebar to fit though.

In case any body is still looking, I saw four at the Sunnyvale Costco (Lawrence Station) yesterday. The are not in the usual spot (if anything at Costco ever has one), but in the far back, very last aisle, left side, behind the liquor (guess what I was looking for when I saw it).

Too late now, and I don't know how much you want to spend, or how many other campers can help you with some cash; but try looking at portable horse shelters. They are heavy duty with a arch/rounded roof, come 12'x20'x10' or 12'x20'x8' and simply roll the sides up or down. Each end usually stays open but they can be closed if needed. Good luck and take care.

For future reference because I know these are popular, they are not under carport in the computer system there. That's why everyone has a hard time finding them when employees look them up. I found this out when I was working there and was frustrated trying to look it up in the system to purchase one for myself. I can't remember what they are under anymore, but its under the automotive section. Hopefully this helps everyone searching for them in the future.

So, I was strolling though Costco enjoying the sample foods that they offer up at lunch time, and low and behold, there was a full stock of carports stacked up pretty high. If you need one, now is the time to grab it. Still a bargain at $200.

On a side note, the samples were rather skimpy, but I did get a lobster stuffed ravioli.

Picked up a Costco Barn today from Costco in South San Francisco (EL Camino).
The Costco in San Francisco does not have them, but both Costcos in South San Francisco as well as the one in Foster city has a bunch still.

I didn't know where to post this, as i've searched and found that this was the best place. What is the best size of the poles for a cartport. Most of the carports I've seen are 1 3/8". Would that survive in a dust storm on the playa? Are the poles too light weight?

So I just measured the Costco carport poles on mine, they are almost 2" (1 7/8 I think). I don't have a tool to measure the wall thickness, but they are quite sturdy.
