Please explain why spam can't be deleted.

Because as I'm sure you're all thinking too, this is ridiculous. Moderators can delete stuff, right? Block users, etc. (I realize new names will just sign up, but when so many are from the same name...).

So why aren't pages of spam posts being deleted? (I am asking out of a sincere unknowing, not to be snarky).

This moderator resigned, and no, not because of spam. I still have my mod powers, but I'm not using them, other than to see how many spam reports are in. Right now there's a mod online, whacking away. It takes a bit of time to catch up. There are other mods, but no one babysits the board 24/7. In fact, I was whacking spam until around noon yesterday. But I'd resigned, so I stopped deleting the spam posts, didn't make sense to keep working on it.

These bots are particularly aggressive. If their posts aren't taken down right away, they post more and faster. If their posts are deleted right away, they come back with a different username. The solution has to be more fundamental than human mods.

Yeah, I know nobody can watch 24/7 (though we could probably come close, as addicted as some of you are), but I could at least get a start @ 9a.m. EST, just to clean it up.

No, you get full powers. I did put up a name for discussion and she is agreeable, but I can't make it happen.

Also, mods CANNOT block users or we'd be done with this nonsense.

Yep, a simple matter of being able to jump in online more often. I don't work outside the home, so when I take a break from my busy hausfrau day of painting and gardening, I could hit eplaya, delete a dozen spam posts and move on. If I did this several times a day, I'd get all the spam, you never even saw it.

Gotcha. So, it is not that with the new board there is more spam/an less efficient spam preventor. The reason we are having more spam is because there is nobody to delete it before it can fill up the board.

Also, the "please review this before you post" is annoying.

I'd go with "Buttmunch" he's on purpose, and with animosity. He's a narcissistic turd bag, who will shit in the punchbowl, if not paid enough attention, and, ruin things for everyone, just to make his point.

Thank you, Anti-M, for all you've done for the forum. It's obvious that you have had a huge impact on the smoothivity of the board above and beyond your actual comments and suggestions. IMHO, the BMorg should have offered you a compensation package commensurate with your true value!

There are lots and lots of modifications/applets/gadgets for reducing spam on phpbb bulletin boards.
From requiring bots (computer programs) to answer questions when registering (What color is a banana?)
to
not displaying a post that has admin defined keywords (viagra, prescription, vajayjay)
to
requiring a user to be a member for X days before posting
to
holding a members first post or two for moderator approval.

That Spanky person is the one that has the power to do this stuff.
Maybe when he fixes the css to eliminate the "blue" pages...
