Just don't let Henry Ford get ahold of that pamphlet, Eric.

too late.

I checked but this doesn't seem to be the one he printed. From what I can find this publisher seem to be not only anti-Semitic & anti-Bolshevik, but anti-German as well, which Ford was most certainly not.

I should have put The Man on there as well.

Was it a real ritual?

Wicker Man was a science fiction film about a constructed religion.
Is there a basis in reality?

apparentely so, teh druids didnt write anything down, so when the romans killed them all virtually everything was lost. However apparentely it was a yearly ritual where according to differnet sources everything from one person to the wicker man filled with people were burnt as a sacrifice, mind you apparentely the first born child was also sacrifed and all kinds of other human sacrifice took place, though is from roman sources who bribed a druid to tell them the mysteries and then they got onto there propoganda machine. So it could all be total tripe.

but we all like a bit of human sacrifice now and then dont we.

Possibly, but the primary sources are sketchy. The Gauls did practice human sacrifice, and they did burn effigies of men made of straw or wood. Not a far leap in logic, but a leap even in Roman times.

It goes back (documented) at least 1000 years in Russia... probably a lot longer. It's a huge part of Maslenitsa. (See the pancake day thread!)

FIRE

The staggered rhythm of the knocks and the rhythmic clapping in
Masonic "Fire", however, have only rhythm as a common basis. The
"Fire" is attributed to a military or regimental source and was adopted
as a form of applause for after-dinner toasting. A lucid account of
Masonic "Fire" is given in the French ritual exposure, Trahi, 1745:

"They first strike two blows close together but they leave a slightly
longer interval between the second and third, the latter being somewhat
louder too. All this is repeated three times. The same graduations of
force and speed are observed at table, when they clap their hands after
drinking."

ROYAL ARCH

Another case of difficulty for many Brethren is the placing of the Royal
Arch in the Masonic system. As the Third Degree grew out of a two-
Degree system, so the Royal Arch emerged as a logical development
from that and should be viewed as an integral part. It was practised by
the Antients under the authority of their Craft Warrants as it was, to
them, literally, a Fourth Degree. The premier Grand Lodge, however,
doggedly adhered to a stand of non-recognition of the Royal Arch,
although most of their senior Grand Officers were members of it and
set up a Grand Chapter to control it: they were able to enjoy the best
of both worlds.
