1MileCLOCK (World Largest Clock @ Burning Man 2011)

I thought I would re-post this for my friend Jim who is hoping to build the World Largest Clock, over one mile in diameter at Burning Man this year! He is hoping to get enough money to fund his project through the KickStarter site. Also please tell your friends about this site. I am really hoping to see this happen at Burning Man this year!

It would been a great time lapse photo too! I am trying to think how it could be done... I guess if you were shooting from a near by mountain top, I have seen other photos from there... hmmmm...

I'm sure it could be arranged. Id be willing to hike up there and place a camera. BLM might take issue with running a power line , outside the playa, unattended.

Not a bad idea, but you can't do a long exposure or time lapse with a camera on a kite...

Not sure which mountain is Trego, but fron the angle and direction, looks like its near the frog pond. Is a dirt road that runs along the RR tracks, that's my guess. That road starts from 447 about a mile past Empire.

Thank goodness that someone has realized how pesky it can be to loose track of time at Black Rock City. Volunteers will no longer be able to say they missed their shift at (your department here) because they lost track of time.

Hey it may be your vacation, but that's no excuse to run around willy nilly, happily oblivious to the steady march of time to your ultimate return to the drudgery of the default world.

There IS something to be said for keeping track of time at Burning Man solely by the sun, moon, stars, and the body, but I'm also a clock nerd impressed with the idea and effort here. I guess I can avert my eyes if necessary (well, we'll see about that I guess)

Unless your above the lasers, this clock wont do any of us any good. I love the idea! and if I were employed, Id donate to the project.

Have you been in touch with BMORG? I am not sure where you plan on placing your lasers, but ti looks like on top of the man since it is the middle of the clock face.

BMORG shot down our plans of putting time lapse cameras on the mans head, with a NO EFFING way.

In the picture it does look offset from the Man. The tower will need to be taller than the man to avoid hitting him, the beams will probably never be close enough to ground to be a problem, and they should turn it off if it rains. I just hope people aren't idiots and try to send reflective balloons or something into the beams, which could be quite dangerous. Aside from balloons or other stuff, it should be safe enough for even US laser show standards.

One of my first volunteer gigs ever was in 2002, when there were cardinal point laser beams from the Man on his lighthouse. I was to sit and watch the beams, and hit the kill switch if someone sent up anything reflective, or if tall art cars drove into the beam and stayed there. I flicked it off for a few moments as La Contessa's mast split the beam and tried to follow it.

Then the spoiled "We Know the Artist" entitled club kids came up and took my water without asking. Bitches. Before SparklePony came into use. But Sparkleponies aren't mean snobs, are they?

I'm still attending, I have to wonder if they are too, and if they aren't as clueless and nasty as they were that many years ago.

Since the man is no longer accessible to people, the lasers could be placed beneath the man. Only problem would be when a hand passes 3 o'clock and 9 oclock. Hopefully, the artist has already contacted BMORG.
