What Do mods do?

Mods are volunteers. We are not admins, we can't help much with things like log ins and technical glitches, certainly not with how the board is run or policy. We can draw attention to posts which suggest such things to the admins, but so can you.

We can delete posts which contain spam, personal information such as full names and phone numbers, child porn, etc. or take away duplicate posts and cross-postings.

We can merge threads.

We can move threads.

We can lock or unlock threads. I only do so at the request of the OP, and then only if the thread has devolved into drivel or venom.

We can delete entire threads.

We can see IP addresses, and we can see your socks.

We can edit posts.

What we Do Not/cannot do:

We do not edit your mistakes or make your embarrassing posts disappear. You live with what you post. Either explain it or walk away.

We do not correct grammar and spelling.

We cannot ban users at our level. That's admin. Banning of non-spammers is rare and extreme.

We do not "out" socks, but neither are we sworn to secrecy.

We do not make rude comments go away. Use the plonk or ignore feature if you're fed up with another eplayan.

We are not referees, although we may ask flamers to tone it down, pretty please.

We do ask for civil discourse and less snark in the informational threads.

What do mods do? It appears they lock the official moderation discussion thread rather than boot the people who mucked it up. A little housekeeping is preferred over locking the doors and boarding up the windows because the place got a little dirty. Or in other words boot Simon and Quillard until the flames cool down before a thread gets locked. The rest of us should not have to be restricted in our interactions with this board based on the actions of others.

we hear ya, but have to act quick sometimes so we can chat quick. My biggest beef is the asshats that stir crap up just to inflame something or in the case of some people drop the most meaningless of diatribe on a page. That starts a pissing match and then it escalates into people making threats on a BBS. I mean WTF?

So yeah we are pissed as well. We are working on tuning up problem children and cleaning house as quickly as we can on as time allows.'

Wow. I had a snarky reply written up and I held off. You're right. I don't have all the facts. And yes, I'm no angel. Pot meet kettle. Yep. All of that fits. And I do shoot first and ask questions later...it's an approach that is not always good for online communication but it does pay the bills at the moment.

That being said it still doesn't change the fact that the two of you are essentially taking a dump in our online community and it's happening today. There are people saying behind the scenes they are being stalked. And there are others who are saying they think it's time to leave the eplaya for good. And last but not least we're now seeing threads locked again. In over 10 years of being on this board I can say that is a rare occurance. So there's no question things are bad. And the fact I'm speaking up and saying it needs to stop....well sorry if that's not liked...I'm not here to win any popularity contests as I lost that years ago.

The bottom line is this crap needs to stop, one way or another. And it doesn't matter who is making the statement...this community doesn't need this kind of crap. It just doesn't.

Again...my thought is to ban both of you until things cool off. Badger and I got banned back in the day, there is a historical precedent that can be followed here. We asked DVD to chill out and take a break and he has...because in the end he loves this place and really wants the best for it. He values the community as a whole. If either one of you care any at all...you'll find a way to de-escalate this at least out of the eplaya. </soapbox>

There's a lot which is not made public. Unfortunately, a lot of it never gets made public, and never will.

Things don't always progress as quickly as we'd like, but we get there eventually. Banning doesn't happen overnight. But be assured, bad behavior does not go unnoticed. We just can't always act on it as quickly as the board can pass judgment.

It was my post and since I own that content, I have the right to pull it. And I exercised that right.

The "threat" was a warning of an impending DMCA takedown notice among other things against an individual and not against the eplaya.

Long story short...we'll try the diplomacy track once again...but I've got the 16 inch battleship guns locked and ready to fire on this one.

I couldn't care less where it's being posted and I have a hard time understanding why you would give a hoot either. Just don't post anything you don't want to appear somewhere else on the Internet. Have you ever tried to Google any topics that appear here? They alre almost immediaely spidered and appear in your search, as well as being caches for who knows how long.

Be careful of what you post and it's just one less thing you don't have to worry about. It keeps your blood pressure lower and can save on ammo.

Yeah, things get crossposted all the time. Definitely aware of it. Usually have no objection to it...at all. In fact I kinda like it. But in this case it was being associated with an individual who desperately needs an extended 5150 placed on them.....and that is where I had a problem.

In any case I know my concerns are being addressed and that's got my blood pressure back down and things are calm again over here. Which is as it should be.
