A story?
Max's mind was pulsing in overdrive as he tried to keep his focus in the fight swirling around him. Why the hell he ever listened to that damn woman back at the trader's depot in the first place... well, let's be honest here Maxie, she had amazing tits...
SHIT! He swung his rebar mace up just in time to block the Reaver's wild swing with a fire ax. His left hand sunk 8 inches of steel into the wild eyed, screaming fiend's gut and ripped itself free in a diagonal just below the rib cage. A brief glimpse of the shower of blood, intestines and other contents of his abdomen was all Max saw as he turned away looking for the next attacker.
"Stay in the game Maxie, you can think about tits all day after you get through this" he chastised himself.
He brought his mace around in a tight arc and was rewarded with the bone crunching, soft thud of caving in a skull and seeing a second Reaver's head disappear in a cloud of brains and gore. A third fell on the point of his knife, nearly decapitated and the fourth was vainly trying to regain his feet after Max's mace shattered his pelvis into splinters.
"Head up buddy boy" Max said casually.
The Reaver turned his sun blasted face up with a snarl, responding to the sound of his voice and not the words. Max could smell the rot from the once human mouth now filled with blackened teeth. Max finished him off with a flourish, he spun in a circle and landed the jagged steel of the mace head square into the face of the last Reaver with a sickening thud and crack of bones.
A quick search turned up nothing of use from the few pockets still remaining intact on the shredded and threadbare clothes the four wore.
"Is it over?" A frightened voice called out from a nearby tree.
Max looked at the pale teen boy with some disdain. "Yes. Its all better now. You can come down, the bad guys are dead." He watched his charge climb down gingerly. For a moment, he was afraid he was going to have to go help. "Hurry up.", he ordered. "Groups this small are rare. There's probably more nearby."
Fear crossed the boy's face. He looked like he was ready to climb back into the tree and hide some more.
"Dammit boy, get your ass in gear. I want to make it back to the depot before dark." Max's tone was harsh.
