Hello All,

I am a conservatory trained pianist and would love to volunteer, while in Black Rock City, by sharing my extensive piano repertoire with the wonderful Burning Man revelers.

I am available for solo performance as well as chamber music ensembles, for at least 1 hour of continuous playing, per night.

My repertoire spans from the Baroque to 20th Century periods.In addition to being a quick study, I also have good sight-reading skills.

You may find yourself slumming one way or another. Can you play Russian favorites? (Tchaikovsky not acceptable.) Anyway, the "piano man" on this board, who brought 2? last year and is planning for more, is a gentleman by the name of Elliot. The Russian question was in reference to the Apokalypitika Kantina, a small and intimate vodka bar. There was a piano there. If you can do Alexandrov Choir Favorites, I'll be impressed. Anyway, the woman who runs the Katina is called BayBridgeSue and you're most likely to run into her in the Apokaliptika thread in the 2011 Theme Camps sub-forum.

(Sorry, couldn't resist a na'vi reference!)

We hope to again have our famous almost-out of tune piano, St Willard, at the Kantina this year. We are located in Terminal City, 3:00 and A or thereabouts (final location TBD).

We entertain any and all pianists - honky tonk classical, big band, show tunes, - we were even graced by a professional singer and pianist last year, followed the next day by someone who was classically trained and belted out Rachmaninov and Schostakovich, and yes, even Tchaikovsky as if it were 2nd grade recess and floored everyone there. Happens a lot in our place. It's all pretty informal, and most of our activity is during the afternoon and early evening, sometimes later if ABear or I or whoever is behind the bar doing vodka shots with our comrade-customers, and talking about Afghanistan and (one-)party politics.

Barbie Death Village, on our Wish List for 2011, is to have our own piano for the camp. I would welcome you to come by and play, though we tend to be partial towards Tom Lehrer rather than Rachmaninov. Now all we need is a piano. And a piano tuner, but that's for another day. Last year the piano we had borrowed was so out of tune that to decipher what songs were being played was guesswork at best.

FWIW, I stopped, grabbed a seat and a piece of bacon a camp that had an "open mic" piano on ring road across from the bus depot. It was a lovely resting spot and the fella on the bench was phenomenal, I thanked him and told him so before moving on. It was a very refreshing.
