Umm, no. I don't drink, smoke or do drugs in the default world and see no reason to on the playa. Less MOOP management (look Ma! no butts or roaches!), less risk of doing something even more boneheaded than I'm prone to, and it's never impaired my enjoyment of or passion for the event.

Heck, I know people who *do* do drugs normally but don't on the playa! Their rationale: why distort the experience?

So whether you ingest or not, everyone has their own valid experience.

This may sound strange (especially if you knew me) but I've never been intoxicated in any way, and this will apply to Burning Man.

I don't drink or smoke anything or do drugs and I never did. I have no excuses for some of the crazy and/or stoopit shit I've done or said. You know, like spending a week in the high desert I can't really afford with a bunch of crazy people (ok, that's actually a good thing), most likely needing a job when I get back ...

However, I think Burners are going to do what they're going to do. Its irritating when one more asshole thinks they are going to be the one to get me drunk, probably just as irritating if I give someone shit for being intoxicated.

There is that scnene in the movie "Coffee and Cigarettes" where Iggy Pop and Tom Waits are sitting in a diner. On the table is a pack of smokes of questionable origin.

They both convince each other that since they quit, they can have a puff or two, it's no big deal ... since they quit. Besides, they say it goes well with coffee, in a diner, in black and white.

Cig smoke is really horrible but I'm fine with coffee.

Wow, I can't believe people are givin' this guy shit for not engaging in psychoactives. Oh, and what does religion have anything to do with drug use? Everyone knows specifically that christians drop L and shrroms all the time...Haven't you ever read the bible!?

Anyways, happy you and your buddies "quit" drugs, at the burn. Just don't be snarky about people, if they are...using. And do not be surprised if you "catch" a campmate experiementing, be accepting of it. Afterall people do come to the burn to release, escape, have fun, awake, and live... sometimes that includes drug use.

There is an NA/AA camp on the playa, I think around 3:00. You could always camp with them! :)

Unless you purposefully taper your caffeine use down to zero before the event, yeah--bring some instant or canned coffee. You will either save your own day (or evening) or someone else's. Going all the way to Center Camp for coffee is a pain unless you wanted to go there regardless.

I occasionally dehydrate myself in the real world, mildly, but am so paranoid about it on the playa that it's probably the time of year I am least dehydrated.
