Reversal of passage

I tend to associate rites of passage with some kind of payoff and also with group approval/status elevation. This led me to the thought of a human life like an onion, layers upon layers of initiations surround what was once a impressionable child.

I would like to make a rite of passage that returns people to their infantile status.

I haven't decided whether I will take a comical or dangerous approach.

The comical would consist of a Doctor Seussish "Star Bellied Sneetches" machine where the participant exits wearing nothing but a large cloth diaper fixed with a giant safety pen.

The dangerous would be a giant vagina, about 7 feet tall and 3 feet wide. Attached to a pole in its interior would be about 20 feet of bunjee. At the end of it there would be a vest which the participant puts on. The vest would be fastened in such a way that it would take someone at a fast jog to run and break free from.

I guess I could combine the two and people could charge out of a vagina and break the cord dressed like a giant baby.

As puberty is a definite right of passage, a friend came up with this idea...A giant Maxi Pad made out of foam...If you wanted to be nasty it could be colored to look like a used maxi pad. Just placed out on the playa for people to climb and jump on.

When I read the subject I thought of a succession of rooms, a funeral home replete with casket, nursing home communal room with some geezers playing checkers, others playing canasta and others staring vacantly at a tv test pattern, a retirement party, walking the bride down a church aisle, a living room where a nervous boy stares mouth agape as a teen in a prom dress descends the stairs, a maternity ward, a honeymoon suite, a college graduation, a garage w/ tricked out Camaro, a classroom, a playground, crawling INTO a 7ft vagina, and culminating with a waterslide shooting participant out a ginormous penis...... but that's just me.

Malcom in the Middle already did it huh? Dang, that kind of takes the wind out of my labia... Regardless, I want to provide people with a reversal of passage. Sic Pup I like your idea of a reversal time line, it could be done in an interactive drama/obstacle course fashion. Thanks for the feedback and banter; I will keep thinking (thats a threat).

In 2003 AstroPups (I think) had a party where you went down a slide styled to look like a giant penis to get in.

I think many variations of this idea have been done- but just because something has been done doesn't mean it can't be done better.

If you like this idea refine it and make it your own.

Pepe Ozan's piece in '99(?) was a very large vagina with a slide; nearby was a matching, huge lingam... the 'opera' performance on Friday night was participants 'man'ouvering the two structures into the appropriate formation for consummation (this was quite a logistical nightmare) - then setting the whole thing aflame...

There were some folks on the Esplanade this year (8-8:30?) who had something like a giant basketball net attached to some scaffolding in such a way that you could climb up, get in, and slowly slide through a tight space head first. They were calling it a rebirth experience, at least in part because it was difficult to keep any clothes on while doing it, I suppose. No doubt it could be reworked and re-decorated to become a birthing experience.
