I don't recommend the $160 45.

It is safe though.
They save money by using heavy metal to compensate for steel quality and treatment.
Probably not long lived or accurate, but a decent self defense gun for some.
But heavy.

I bought an S&W 915 quite a few years ago... I remember them marketing it to various LE agencies as a budget service pistol... Want to say it weighed in right about 300.

Wasn't a pretty gun by any means (part of the price was finish), it did hit what I aimed at, but after a few thousand rounds the POI was off - thought it was a loose sight, but it turned out the barrel was worn. ???!!!

Sent it back to Smith... they went thru it and replaced what needed to be replaced, got it back, this time it started to go soft after prolly couple a dozen boxes or so of ammo. Eventually stabilized, so I kept it... but still, is true, you get what you pay for.

I guess if you are OK with 4-5" gropes, er, groups, it's OK... I rather prefer knowing that what I'm shooting at will be hit where I'm pointing the pistol.

Oh yeah... This was about the time we were getting fraq'd about mag capacity - you could get the pistol with a pair of 10 round mags for $300 + or minus, but the 15 round mags (which was still OK) "option" would set you back ANOTHER $200!!!, never mind that's what they shipped with.

I'm glad I didn't get taken for $500 for this thing.... for 5" gropes. Fracking california...

why I questioned it, is that although, a fine, wonderful piece of machine work, the Luger, was prone to jams and such.........so finely made, it was less tolerant of dirt and all.
Where, the P38 was built more like our 1911, sloppy but, much more reliable.

I owned an AK for dirt. The Luger id wear a velvet glove to shoot. They issued hardshell cases, for just such problems. Regardless, they are beautiful firearms..
