There's no such thing as the perfect playa boots. I go barefoot mostly.

Otherwise, it's a pair of Docs. Two years, now, they've worked fine.

The trick is a nice pair of insoles. Get a cheap-ass pair of boots you like and put some comfy soles inside.

Try the cheap, tan, army-issue combat boots. Not the black leather ones from Vietnam, I mean the current ones. They're fast to get into and out of, cool in hot climates and will keep the dest from making your feet gnarly.

Amazon has deals on them or places like www.uscavalry.com or something like that has them as well. You can get goggles and other stuff there also.

I have a pair of short black leather harness biker boots, size 7M, the kind you just stick your foot into, no zipper or laces. Finger loops at the top to pull them on with. One inch heel, eight inch shaft, vibram soles. Very good used condition. Free to a good home if you pay shipping.
Already broken in, I love them, but my feet changed size when the arthritis kicked in.

Eric, those are wonderful.

I love my playa boots just a little too much. They're the color of playa dust to begin with; a pull-on hybrid of riding boot and cowboy boot. I felt comfortable getting them dusty immediately.

I really like my Tony Lama Cowboy boots. Yeah they are choppy to walk in. Were never actually designed to walk any sustained distance in but I like the way the tops tucked in my pant leg keep the dust off of my feet. I've had these boots since 94. They are like an old friend. Just nice to have around in good times.

Otherwise I wear some version of skate shoe or hiking boot.

Wear something broke in to your foot. The playa is no place to be breaking in a pair of shoes or boots. Something that breathes but is fairly dust proof will be nice. It is hard to get both. Bring lots of socks so that you can change them out often if you need to.

My perfect playa boots:

I tried wearing closed toe shoes and lasted until about Wednesday and said screw it. Once I made the switch over to my normal Rainbow flops that I swear by everyday anyway at home, I was never happier. Playa foot? What playa foot? It's a dirty rumor spread by Dr Scholls, I tell you. Zero problems.
