It wasn't the Hexayurt folks. Supposedly there were 40+ of them out there and a paid crew to set them up. The camp was a semi-catered affair and meant to serve as a week long birthday party which suggests a high hipster quotient in the assemblage.
I'm sure the folks at Hexayurt could put that money to better use. They build shelters very similar to ones in the photo but they're actual working design prototypes for emergency shelters.
Hexayurt represents a cool group of people with a damn fine vision of designing low cost, portable shelters to be deployed in disaster zones all around the world. They've been to the event multiple times using different shelter designs to field test in the harshness of the desert. I can assure you these folks are anything but creepy.
