5:30 and Istanbul - Deadsville?

Newbie here arriving to Burning man on Tue morning. I'm asking for your opinion, would the area around 5:30 and Istanbul be too far away from the action? I had arranged to camp with others there, but now a friend is telling me that that is way out in Bumfuck Egypt. Would you flake on them to be nearer the action? I kind of want my experience at Burning Man to be as outrageous as possible and I want to party. I believe that I will be self reliant enough to camp there even if there was no festival going on but I want to be social. Should I flake or play it safe with the group at the outer rings.[/i]

We stayed at 7 and K last year. You don't get the noise as the inner camps. You also don't get the smashed person coming into your camp thinking it is his. BUT you also don't get blockage from the dust storms that you would by being closer in. We're hoping to get in closer this year maybe somewhere in the G range.

And it may beat driving up and down streets trying to find a place.

Don't worry, make a choice and no second guessing.

Actually, location isn't that bad. Yeah, your street is back a little more but 5:30 is still center city.

I kind of want my experience at Burning Man to be as outrageous as possible and I want to party.

Are you some sort of fucking spectator? I didn't think so.

Don't depend on the party to come to you. BE the party. Be the outrageousness.

If you can't do that, at least have faith that you will find it. Find a MV float that you can hop a ride on. Explore on your bike (you have a bike, don't you?). Let the playa magic happen.

There are some amazing camps on the back streets- bars that people who only ply the Esplanade never see. I try to cruise the streets past F every year- you never know what you'll find back there, great food camps, super friendly people, the aforementioned great bars....

And its generally easier to sleep back there as it tend to be quiet(er) than the front streets.
