I built this website to inform people about Recycle Camp and what we do (and do not do).
This is not a call for more camp mates. It is for info to better plan your Burning Man experience.

Very Very Very awesome. So simple and so effective. I'll be sure to bring my cans and help spread the word.

Maybe a rinsing station would be cool, to help with the smell? Or has that never been a problem? It may cause a problem, waste a little bit of water, and create grey water.. but hey, just a thought.

rising is not necessary. it would create more problems like you mentioned. it really has not been a problem. The dry desert air is are blessing.
Thanks for helping to spread the word. And please pass on the website URL as well. Participants with mis-information or a lack of information is our biggest problem. That is why the website was created...to fix that.

What do people do with their plastic bottles? is there a recycling camp for these? Has art been created out of them? Gifts?

I'm interested to know :)

Take them home and recycle there. Very little weight involved and you can smush them. Recycling in Nevada is a little more difficult than in California where we're worried about filling our landfills. And even here, the recycling industry has been stopped in their tracks by the economy.
Some people do use them to cover rebar stakes.
This is one reason why I prefer the "suitcases" as water. It fits in with my whole "system." (Or, as I have pretentiously, but I hope not seriously, called it in the past "my hydration strategy.")
My mother actually has colored water in old juice bottles around the back yard. It's watering the plants after the quake.
Can you think of a water bottle project.

I do not know of any camp that collects plastic bottles. But, there are 2 solutions.
1) Bring water in bulk. 2, 5, or 10 gallon containers (preferably reusable), and dispense it into smaller containers like Nalgene or metal containers that easily clip onto you or your bike with a caribiner.
2)Take your empty plastic bottles to Reno. Savemart grocery stores probably will be accepting them again. Details of Savemart and other locations will be available at Recycle Camp when you bring us your cans. And, closer to the event www.recyclecampbrc.info will be updated with drop-off locations in the Reno-Sparks area.

We will gladly take your [b]aluminum cans[/b] at Recycle Camp During Burning Man. For everything else, use the resources below.

2010 marks the fourth evolution and year of the Reno-Sparks-Wadsworth Free
Drive-Thru Recycling Project in support of burners during and following Burning
Man.


Friday, August 27 through Wednesday, September 8 - Open 24 Hours

ACCEPTED RECYCLABLES: Plastics (SPI 1,2,3,4,& 5), glass, all metals (aluminum,
tin, steel, brass, etc.), paper, cardboard, plastic bags, household
(rechargeable and disposable) batteries, bicycles, and non-perishable food and
water.

Simply drive into the parking lot and sort and deposit your recyclables into the
appropriate containers. Please have your recyclables as clean as possible and
remove from bags before depositing.

Disposal of non-recyclable waste will also be available for recyclers at
approximately $3 per standard 35-gallon trash bag.

Proceeds from recyclables, and proceeds beyond expenses for garbage disposal,
will be donated to help support new Black Rock Solar installations in the
region. Non-perishable food and water will be donated to local Food Banks.
Bicycles will be donated to local Kiwanis and American Legion bike projects.

Your participation and care is very much appreciated in this fourth year of a
multi-community initiative to promote recycling!
