First Camp CafÃ© Needs Chefs and Helpers

First Camp and The Nome are setting up a large structure for official Burning Man Organization meetings, cocktail receptions, and a big evening event. We will also host a 75-person dinner each night for members of the Burning Man LLC, senior staff, their guests and various artists and glitterati. All are fascinating people.
We need experienced chefs and cooks to direct evening meals and assist with lunches.
This is a fabulous opportunity to make a real contribution to the functioning of Burning Man, and meet some great people.
We may also need people to help with food prep, serving, bartending and housekeeping. Shifts are about 3-5 hours. If you are working with us, you can hang at our plush camp, join us for cocktail hour, use the showers, charge your batteries, and so on.
From 8/28 or to 9/5, we have a daily cocktail hour followed by dinner. On Tuesday 8/31, we host a 130-person dinner for Burning Man VIPs, and another cocktail reception on Friday 9/3.
The Nome Camp will set up a 4,000 sq. ft. structure in back of First Camp with bar, kitchen, dining facilities, lounge, electricity, plumbing, showers and so on. First Camp is located in the Center Camp area, directly facing the Great Circle. The Nome Camp consists of friendly long-time burners you will enjoy meeting. We are quite experienced at major Playa food events. In addition to having a great experience, you can hang at our camp, use the showers and so on.

i'm new here, and a first timer to boot, so I might be a little slow.

Just making sure I am understanding the "offer"â€“ The founder of burning man and his inner circle are looking for "volunteers" to wait on them while they eat fancy meals with their "VIP" guests, and in exchange you can charge your ipod and use their bathroom?

Well, it's their party and frankly, I have to hand it to anyone who can make a career out of a party but it was just the way that it was worded ... just a little over the top, a little self promoting ... I feel so dirty having read it.

I think I'll go take a shower.

I know the event wouldn't exist in any form like it does without Larry's vision, but a VIP supperclub and lounge for the "elite" is just kind of gross. At least have the politeness to keep it quiet if you're going to exclude the proletariat rabble who's dollars pay for it.

There's 130 VIPs at Burning Man? I thought it was 50,000. Or at least whatever the hell number of active posters here on eplaya.... you know we're the rockstars, hmmm??? LOL.

Meh, Larry's party, Larry's camp can ask for volunteers. Interesting dynamic.

Our ordinary, low key, neighborhood bar camp will be serving common people, bringing MINDBLOWING FABULOUS cocktail ART to ordinary burners and my helpful witty (sometimes snarky, I love it..don't ever stop!) eplaya pals (you know who you are) I would volunteer but I'll be too busy for vips (had enough of them in my 30 year career)

Ordinarians who like art, you're all invited!!!!
Oh, but I forgot, it's a secret, you'll just have to figure it out :lol:

I appreciate what they are doing to reduce labor costs. Can you imagine how much higher ticket prices would be if they used paid servants?

This will be one of my rare serious posts. The tone of this thread was some good natured ribbing on the management of BMorg. It dissapeared for the day and by someone's decision it was restored.

I am extremely impressed that the nature of this thread, and the reaction of BMorg allowed it to remain here. Yes, we are having some fun, but you all are truly stand up folks!
