Ok, I'm a 8th time burner who has been on the fence about going to Burning Man this year because of how tough it is on my body. The heat in the morning makes impossible to sleep (and lack of sleep has been affecting my health), and I cant bring a shade structure as I live on the east cost.

Anyway, does anyone know of a camp with awesome people, that has a shade structure I could put my tent under, and a shower enclosure that I can put my solar shower in ?

It would be an extra bonus if the camp has meals, and is close to the Esplanade. I'm willing to pay and volunteer around the camp as well.

I'm sure you can find something, sometimes the playa provides too much...
But we're a month out and it's taken you till now to come up with, what seems to me, a sort of obvious plan. And I"m not even going to say anything about the willingness to pay; sometimes I'm the one who throws money at problems; I just have a different handicap than east coast.
So, I'm not saying your need isn't real, I'm just saying that even on the east coast there are camps that could have used you last month, or in january, and they could provide shade...
I hope you get what you need, but I hope you look for a spot earlier next year.

ok token, i love you more then you could even know. that made my day! how amazing is that pic. you my dear sir rule! now on a different note. has the author of this thread seen the cooling vest thread? cooling vests rock and they have saved my afternoons on playa. i have a joint disease that makes me super sensitive to heat. check out hyperkewl. as far as shade for your tent, walmart before you leave for the burn can provide you with all you need for cheap shade, ie tarps and poles, or slightly better shade ie ezups, if you use an ezup i recommend have a wind block, cause they can be easy up easy down. i have used two the past two years but kept them on their lowest settings, and have had rv wind blocks. so if you are in the open then you might be fucked? deal with your own shit though don't look for others to do it take the initiative and rely on yourself. just cause you are from the east coast doesn't mean you can't bring all you need!

Actually, if you go out the Pyramid Way way, there is a Walmart, a Home Depot, and a warehouse grocery, etc. on the way out to the playa. You would take 445 from I-80. The Home Depot is on the right, the wallmart is on the left. It is all sort of where Los Altos Parkway meets 445. To get to the playa, you continue out 445 to Pyramid Lake and turn right in 446 to Nixon and then left on 447 toward Empire and Gerlach. 445, 446, 447, pretty easy.

That way is more built up, it is surface streets, there's traffic, but it can make sense to buy certain things in Reno rather than cart it all across hill and dale and burn the extra fuel hauling it. I buy a lot of my food, water, booze, mixes, etc. in Reno because that stuff is heavy. I don't want to haul it across the Sierras.

The years I go out early and might need to make a "Reno run" before the event starts, I actually come back in to Sparks that same way and restock. I wouldn't recommend that route if you are just driving straight through but if you need to stock up on the way, it works.

What you would do in the opposite direction is come down 447 and turn right at the Nixon store and left at 445 and come into the back side of Sparks (hmm, sounds like I am fucking a horse ... come into the back side of Sparks ... but I digress).

You don't have to haul a lot of shit all the way across the country. You CAN buy it locally when you are almost there. That can save you a ton of cash on fuel.

And to all the people who think they are retaining the Burning Man principles by being snarky to myself and others, FUCK YOU, you're actually not that funny, and come off like a bunch of trolls who have nothing better to do than be unhelpful sanctimonious Burners.

Its funny how some Burners go the complete opposite on the spectrum of kindness and helpfulness.

I'm not looking for a handout (I asked if anyone knew of a camp). I've been in camps where you can pay $200-$400 and help them build structures, take turns cleaning, etc. I was simply seeing if anyone knew of other camps like that. I dont have entitlement issues or want anyone to take care of me. What I wanted was actually a camp of people who need help so that we could all get what we wanted.

I didnt know if I could even go to Burning Man until last week, but I doubt any of the smartasses here would care or even consider another's circumstances. So much for empathy, but I guess you all will feel good retaining Burning Man's "core" principles.

I find the snarky, sanctimonious trolls to be most helpful. They are like angels with an attitude. A bad one at times. The forum is just a place of humor and help. If anyone jumps on my shit I just grin.

Why is BM so tough on your body? Why do you have health issues, and if you do do you try everything possible to address them? Why don't you try sleep aids? It's only 7 freakin' days! To bad you feel that way Zanek. After my initial round of snark responses to my newbie stupid question, I have been given a lot of great advice and found people I hope to meet in person and become friends with.

Even if their advice is seasoned with a little snarkyness, it's still pretty sound advice.

I'll give you an example of a question posted in another form from someone that needed to think before posting, They were looking for someone to haul their new bikes to and from BM so they didn't have to risk scratching their new car with a bike rack.
