All sorts of stuff, but it seems that the predominate style is trance/techno.
Which I never liked, but somehow, out there I like it.

the great thing about the playa is, when your out there you get a culmination 'mix-down' of all the caco and music warping and undulating into itself, coming from all directions. an elaborate corpse of sorts.

you can't record it,
it's just one of those things you'll look forward to each year.

the best music I heard last year was a circuit bent / custom device which simply spewed out garbled electronic bird noises and scattery beats which would never repeat themselves. It played at a low volume on a golf cart and only twice did it pass me by. but each time it was refreshing

Although there's usually great stuff out there, I'm always surprised at the lack of completely insane music I've never heard before

There will be no music this year on the playa, as it was banned due to the new department of larryland security. You will be able to instead enjoy the hum of a thousand generators, with no speakers. All revelers caught disobeying this edict will be thrown in the fire and burned with the man!

A couple of years ago, the water year, we did something called the "tsound tsunami" where, every evening at sunset, we played nothing but the sounds of waves crashing on the shore, and seagulls. This was boradcast via FM radio and all the sound systems on 10 and 2 o'clock broadcast it out there speakers- it was one of the coolest things i have experienced, very calming and beautiful, like the playa was one giant beach...I would love it if someone could make that happen again.....
