UGG boots on the Playa?

Hi y'all,

I was planning to bring my UGG boots, because supposedly they keep your feet warm when it's cold (actually, I've just worn mine indoors as slippers), and COOL when it's HOT. Perfect, right?

But they only keep your feet cool if you wear them with NO SOCKS. Has anyone tried this? Does Playa dust sift down to your tootsies and give you Playa foot?

do yourself a favor and buy a pair of those $20 knock-off uggs during summer and use those just for the playa. You will not be able to make your uggs look like pre-BM, no matter how much you clean them. But yes, those fuzzy boots are quite a boon at 5AM when its colder than a......

I usually have playa foot in a matter of hours, so meh, i'm more concerned with warmth than foot rot, but the dust doesn't creep down the leg too bad.

dust gets "everywhere"......just expect that.
the only real control you might have, is, the amount.

I'm just glad I'm going to have shoes out there this year that dont have a vertical rip in the right side.

Every step i took put more and more playa in my shoe. By the time i got to camp and my shoes off i had a playa print on the insole. i'd have to pull it out, let it dry, and then chisel the hard playa foot print off.

I've taken my (real, not knockoff) Uggs to the playa for 6 years now. They're holding up fine! I wash them when I get home, and then condition them with Ugg Conditioner and a special Ugg brush.

Sure, they're faded, but they were a light pink to start with, so now they're just lighter playa-pink.

They're FABULOUS out there. I wear them some nights when I won't be running around too much, for those middle-of-the-night potty runs, and also in the early-am when I'm having breakfast.

No, I didn't wash them in the washer. I hand-washed them in the sink with a gentle detergent with a bit of vinegar mixed in (to get the playa dust off). And then conditioned them with the Ugg conditioner.

Yup, I still wear mine. Mostly around the house or to the beach (you know, what they were designed for!). They're practical, comfortable and warm, and they feel FABULOUS after being in the water at the beach.

Guess I'd have to say the difference between knockoff boots and UGGs is only a matter of distinction. And cost, of course.

my UGGs and i used to have a love-hate relationship. I loved them back when people thought they were lame and I got stares from wearing them out and about (sooooo comfortable). I loved them back then......but then they became popular.....and popular with the WRONG GROUP! I put them away because everyone started wearing them.

but I missed them.

so I furred them. long bright blue (think "cookie monster") fur. You can't even tell that they are Uggs....I call them "FUGGS".

they are the BEST for early morning playa!

UGG Birch Boots work great for the Playa. I wore mine to several. Comfy, cool, rugged, no-slip soles, and less likely to slip off capriciously.

Added bonus: you can clean them up easier than the suede ones, since the foot is of regular smoothe/shiny leather.

FYI. I got a black fuzzy/fury pair of knock offs at my local super walmart. $20.00.

They are my camp/raver boots. I am planning on decorating mine this year before playa as well

Good deal! We're going to check out an Army/Navy surplus store this weekend, if it's open on Sunday, and I'll keep my eyes open for boots or...whatever.

I have to say I am one of those people who just doesn't get playa foot. That being saaaaaid, when I am not bare foot I wear my real uggs. I love the dusty look, and wear them all the time off playa however, I get lots of dust in mine, so my feet are dusty every time I wear them between burns. I LOVE the idea of furring my boots to match my bike and playa coat!! Thanks for the 411!!

Thanks, Veganchoirgirl. I think my boot cover idea will help keep at least some of the dust from sifting down into my boots. Even if that doesn't work, they'll be really fun!
